Front Shaking While Braking On 821 Hyper

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Vetle, Aug 23, 2021.

  1. Hey, guys.

I got a 2014 821 Hypermotard and I'm experiencing that while I'm braking slightly, the front starts shaking, but no issue with hard braking.
I've had the problem before (about 9000km ago) and it got better after I changed out the discs.
But this time it started after i changed out the pads for new ones. Could I have assembled it wrong? Is that even possible?
I really don't want to spend a lot of money on new discs again, so was wondering if anyone had any good ideas?

  2. Could be simply a case of properly aligning the calipers with the discs. I normally do the caliper bolts up finger tight, spin the wheel, pump the brake, spin, pump, spin, pump then hold and then torque the caliper bolts up. I think the Ducati manuals tend to suggest just pumping the brakes before torquing up. Someone in the know will confirm I'm sure.

  3. Did you clean the pistons/ seals, if not they could be grabbing, and will cause said effect. And so will warped discs.

  4. No, did not clean them, but pressed them in and they moved freely. What do you use to clean them, brake cleaner?

  5. Thanks for the tip. I will loosen them and try that.

  6. Just to help you in future, try to avoid pushing them back in before cleaning them as you can damage the seals, after a few goes you will just do it without having to think about it :)

  7. Hi

I use brake cleaner, a little gentle brush with a soft toothbrush too. You can damage the seals sometimes just by pushing them back in with crud.

  8. Have you cleaned the discs? Iv had issues before where I ended up cleaning the pad surface with a rough emery and also the discs with emery and brake cleaner due to comtamination , also check the disc carriers are free.

  9. Take it apart and clean all mating surfaces spotlessly clean.
Check the calliper pistons are clean and free.
Reassemble ensuring correct torque on all fasteners.
If you can get hold of a dial test indicator, check the discs for runout.
You can pick up a cheap DTI and magnetic base for under £20 on eBay.
