I believe there is an adverse camber to the road at this point that catches people out. It's hard to see it coming because there are no easy references around to determine what's 'flat'. Mulholland Drive is near Los Angeles, the closest twisty stretch of road to Bel Air and Hollywood. Every knob with more money than sense goes there to show off, and everybody with a camera (i.e. all of them) goes there to film. Hence loads of YouTube clips.
There's a strip of painted black tarmac/bitumen between the yellow lines. That stuff is lethal and slippery. They paint the same stuff throughout the Pyrenees to cover cracks/joins, and even in the dry it is very dangerous.
