Said company will start rolling out E10 from 1st September Signage is already in place across the estate and it’s still E5 until then
Ok, bit mis-leading by the service stations then. Pumps all clearly labelled E10 and nothing to state that E5 was being pumped out. I'm going to start using the Super / Supreme E5 99 coctane fuels on my bikes.
There should be a poster on the pumps to let customers know The firm dealing with the change of labels has to do every petrol station not just supermarkets and would never be able to complete changes on the day so it’s been done over the last few weeks ready for the 1st September
I deliver fuel for a living based in stanlow we also load from bramhall and Manchester fuel terminal Stanlow has about 5 tankers of ethanol queuing up some days so it wouldn’t surprise me it the blender has been knocking out batches of e10 for weeks All BP fuel now comes from mft as of august which is a texico site She’ll nitro is ethanol based with Ron 99.4 Tesco load the same unadditised stuff . Red diesel or gasoil use is also changing so farmers fisheries and forestry are the only industries going to use it everyone else is going to white derv…
My concern is Ducati say my bike is compatible with e10 fuel but at a max of 10% Ethanol. Anymore, is that just 0.1%, could cause serious engine damage and the warranty will be void. Sounds like they are flying close to the edge to me. The other concern is it maybe compatible during regularly usage, but I wouldnt want to lay my bike up over winter with a tank of e10. Ethanol has an affinity to water, so any moisture in the condensation in your tank can collect and then expose areas of the fuel system which were never designed to be subject to water, to be exposed to water and a corrosion risk.
So my little 1990's 2 stroke cant run on E10, but can run on E5, or super unleaded and definitely not diesel or heating oil, whatever grade that is.
I think it's important to put this into perspective. Older vehicles including carburated and early injected Ducatis will run on E10, the statement that 'They won't run' is over stating the situation. BUT, they may not run as well, and over time the Fuel system including seals and hoses manufactured without E10 in mind may start to break down. There could also be an issue with corrosion to internal fuel system components due to additional moisture content etc. The safe thing to do is run older bikes on Super(while it's still E5) but if you have to put E10 in occasionally because that's all that's available then the bike won't just suddenly refuse to run. My 2003 1000SS and 2004 M1000 are both effected so will only be on Super from now on, but I'll probably have to tweak the Powercommander maps to suit. Nasher.
That's 100% my plan. Only issue with it, is very few rural garages where Iam, stock the ultimate/premium e5 fuel. If I get stuck with no other option than e10 being available, I will fuel up with e10 until, I can get to the next fuel stop and hopefully get e5 ultimate/premium fuel on the next fill up.
I’ve just sealed the tank and replaced all the original o rings/ gaskets with ethanol friendly bits. Making it ethanol proof wasn’t my original intention, the carbs went in for a clean and the tank let go, so I bought a replacement and sealed it with Por15.
I provided this information on another thread and thought it might be of interest here. Since I'm not sure how to link to other threads, I have reproduced it below. I hope it helps, and my apologies for any duplication. The following information on Ethanol content of Petrol may be of interest, particularly for the premium grades and supply location in the UK: https://www.esso.co.uk/en-gb/fuels/petrol https://support.shell.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115005935369-What-is-Ethanol- https://www.bp.com/en_gb/united-kingdom/home/products-and-services/e10-petrol.html#accordion_Is%20my%20petrol%20car%20compatible%20with%20E10? https://texaco.co.uk/pages/e10.aspx The link below is to a website that is monitoring fuel ethanol levels at locations in UK: http://www.ethanil.co.uk/league-table/ Links to Government information are: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/e10-petrol-explained www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-e10-petrol I think there is more information available on this subject elsewhere on this forum. For what its worth, Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 has been my preference for sometime, including overwintering. It's also worth noting that this information does not apply elsewhere in Europe, so taking a fuel additive on your trip might be worth considering? Hope this helps. Tom.
Good start to the day stanlow terminal closed down first thing this morning I believe bramhall and MFT also had problems loading as the injections sensors detected a change. I don’t think I’ll be buying and fuel for a couple of days best stick to supermarkets station as they have bigger storage tanks and the busy sites get a tanker a day
Hey chaps bonus little win . My fuel sensor hasn't worked for months quotes over 250 quid to fix So I was waiting to get it done at next service . The new ethanol fuel lauch in the UK. I heard of the issues in the states with fuel tank components issues using this fuel . A yank mentioned a fuel supplement every 5 k miles . Its called sea foam I got some 10 quid on ebay bit skeptical about things like this , like the old redex in the old cars This sea form meant to clean and protect blah blah . I put just 100 ml in near empty tank rode around a bit then filled up . Didn't think nothing about it . Next ride I took .fuel gauge is working bonus !!!!
