As the title, just dropped my mobile phone and the screen is absolutely rogered. Phone still works as I was bluetoothed to a speaker playing Spotify so hopefully it’s just a new screen. Any recommendations on who, where or if not repairable, how do I recover the information ? Andy
Why not try to locate the nearest Timpsons. I've had an I-Phone 5 repaired previously with a replacement screen and they did a prompt, excellent job too. Cheaper than Apple could/would and with 12 months warranty too, I found it worthwhile.
Thank you for that, we have a Timpsons not far away. I have found a pukka Samsung repair site and have an idea of cost (ouch) so will talk to them. Andy
Or, there’s normally plenty of “independent” phone shops/repairers on most high streets (what’s left of them).
I've used iSmash for a couple of Apple jobs - one was an iPad which could no longer charge; some sort of problem with circuitry behind the Lightning connector socket; it's continued to work fine ever since (more than a year has passed) but the repair was not cheap. Unfortunately the other job was an iPhone 6 which had been taken for a swim; they assessed that for a small charge and decreed that it was not repairable at a sensible cost. You can see the cost for most repairs like replacement screens at their website, and I think they are consistently cheaper than Apple, but have higher standards than some cheap operators (I know from experience that screens may be replaced in some places using rather inferior parts); I used the iSmash branch in Bank tube station because it fitted with a commute I was doing occasionally, but they have plenty of others. If you're feeling confident, then DIY repairs are possible - you could take a look at the Ifixit websight.
It’s not a cheap repair so I want it done properly and a recommendation gives me confidence. Oddly, my two surrogate kids (Carole’s two) who have dropped their phones on a regular basis, have no experience of anyone offering repairs Andy
Had a look at a couple of internet based, home visit, companies to gauge cost and timescale. Picked the phone up and talked to several local repair ‘specialists’ this morning and decided to leave the phone with a chap with premises about a mile from where I live. He’s not the cheapest or the quickest but the cheapest and quickest didn’t offer genuine Samsung parts. Should get the phone back tomorrow afternoon and he also helped me resurrect an old Galaxy Note 4 I found in the drawer so I have communications with the outside world again. Thank you all for your help, it has been much appreciated. Andy
Was it in a case Andy? If not I have one word for you....Otterbox. They have saved my bacon many times and whilst some people baulk at the increased bulk of the phone, it's not really that different to a cheap case and a screen protector dimensionally. Had them on my last three Samsungs and they are worth every penny. When I came to sell the phones on, they were flawless when I removed the case.
Yes, it was in a case but only the back half. Just like buttered toast seems to always fall buttered side down, the phone landed absolutely dead flat, on the unprotected screen It’s the first time I’ve dropped this phone in 4 years of ownership and an expensive lesson. Andy
Just to close this out, got my phone back yesterday and the chap has done a first class job. All working, just as it should and if I get any problems in the coming months, I'm told to take it straight back. As said before, a costly mistake but relatively painless to get fixed in the end. Thanks one and all for the advice. Andy
