  1. The text below is from the bikehps link below that, I assume the information is correct? Although it doesn't say which "Japanese chain producers".

"AFAM chains are made according to stringent technical specifications by the largest Japanese chain producers. They are the result of over 25 years of experience and know how and a collaboration between the AFAM R&D department and the top Japanese chain technicians."

  2. I actually prefer a good drive chain too :)

If you Google the question it will tell you this "AFAM chains are made according to stringent technical specifications by the largest Japanese chain producers. They are the result of over 25 years of experience and know how and a collaboration between the AFAM R&D department and the top Japanese chain technicians"

As to how I know about who makes what drive chains, well I have been in the industry for more than a few decades working for various importers and distributors.

I know the AFAM CEO personally, well maybe I should say I know the AFAM ex-CEO now, cos although he is still with AFAM and at the top, the company itself was sold off last year to the same venture capital company that also owns CMSNL, Putoline and Hocoparts amongst others :) Dont take it I am dissing the chain, I am not. Only pointing out it's not made by AFAM that's all

AFAM used to be Dynachain (DC, as in DC AFAM), now it seems it's branded as AFAM chain but they could use DID, Tsubaki, RK, Regina or whoever else they contract I guess

  3. Interesting. My Afam supplied chain lasted 25000 miles, still had life in it, but changed it with sprockets. If DiD etc supply Afam it must be to a higher spec than DID regular as it lasts twice as long,?

  4. It may not be DID, it simply says it is Japanese :) There are several Jap chain manufacturers.

The manufacturer could even alternate by type/grade. It'd be in-house confidential info, so even if I called and asked him (which I wouldn't as its unprofessional) he would not be likely to tell me. I can't see any chain manufacturing company making an outsource chain better than they sell themselves though, whoever that company be ;) RK offers a 5 year, 25K miles warranty on their top grade stuff for instance...but it has to be fitted with new sprockets or there is no warranty. All the chain guys state similar that I am aware of. A new chain on old sprockets will always wear faster.

  5. I had 14k out of my OEM RSV4 chain....it looked like a shitty oem chain, although i used to scrub it once a month with a wire brush and parrafin then wipe it off, which is what i do for regular maintenance on all my chains the main thing being elbow grease and the wire brush.

  6. If you have a sealed ring chain, brushing with a wire brush can tear the seals, a softer nylon brush is better really.

  7. Knackered old tooth brush

  8. If I want to change OEM chain kit for example to DID with JT sprockets, then I need not only sprockets but also rear sprocket carrier. Am I right? As I understand OEM rear sprocket and carrier come as one piece.

  9. Correct, it’s well worth contacting a supplier like Biketorque.

  10. JT sprockets for whatever reason do need to be mounted on a JT quick change type sprocket holder which is an expensive first time change, but there are sprockets available that will bolt to the original Ducati mount. Supersprox, RK etc all make sprockets that are compatible with the OEM mount :)

  11. Thanks for information. As I see AFAM sprocket also ready for original Ducati mount.

  12. Yes they do, AFAM also do some quick change conversions, but not for the Multistrada ;)

  13. I read in an internet article, that Ducati OEM chain for some models is supplied by Regina Chain:
    https://www.reginachain.net/business-unit/motorcycle/ .
Although I don't know which models, and even whether it is the case. However, someone on here who's better informed than me, may know more?
The Pramac Racing Moto GP riders and other satellite team riders are on the list in the link below, but not the Ducati factory team nor the Ducati WSBK team.

    Hope it's of interest.
