Most people prefer the later red frame black swingarm models, with the more powerful engine etc. Put your standard bits on, sell the bike cheaper, then sell bits after.
Thanks I've changed price to 6250. I've looked at the ad yes it's 2 years newer but mine has half the miles more extras plus it had just been serviced and belts done whereas that one needs belts and service. I think 6250 advertised is about right
I hope you get your sale but the 05 onwards is a very heavily revised bike with proper poke/better swingarm etc, thats what you're up against.
Have dropped it to 6k now due to advice on here and still not getting any questions or offers. Quite surprised thought I'd have quite a bit of interest
Its a known fact silver frames look better and are faster (i have 04 S ) so have to put it out there cos i may have to sell it one day and want to big the price up.
Personally i think you will be lucky to get £6k unless you find someone who really wants for a nice early 999. The later bikes with the red frame sell much more easily. As mentioned you can get a nice 1098 for that money now. But good luck with the sale anyhow.
I don't think I'd pay any more than £5,500 for an early 999s. And that would have to be pretty immaculate - good original condition. If you need to sell I'd suggest £5,800 or thereabouts, giving you a bit of room to negotiate...? cheers, Dom
ok thanks mate that useful. I know everyone says this but the bike is totally immaculate with fsh and 11 months mot, just serviced and belts done plus fully mapped up last year as well. I honestly think it must be one of the best S specs for sale apart from those bought as show pieces
I don't think anythings selling at the moment unless it's perceived as a bargain. Look on ebay and it's the same bikes week after week. What people are asking and what bikes are selling for is very different. pre 05 999s' are going for £4250-4750 at the moment for average mileage examples, post 05 for about £500 more. I feel your pain, of got an early 749s with 11,000 on the clock, which I want to sell to trade up to a 999s. I haven't had a sniff at £3000.
Your probably right mate. I don't need to sell and in some ways don't want to sell. I just fancy something different but certainly wouldn't be giving the bike away.
Feel the pain as well, 749s for less than 3k is not something to be ignored. I've got a 749, 05 model and this year I've lowered the insurance value as the money it's not there any more. Have you thought about doing a swap. I swapped a z1000 for a zx10r and we were both happy with the outcome. People are not spending the money these days, aprillia 1000 are going for less than 4k so a ducati is going to struggle. I say keep the bike, ride the storm and wait for the value to go up.
I have thought about a swap but too be honest I'm thinking of selling to put the money towards a nearly new bike such as s1000rr, r1200gs or panigale. but like you say I'm more than happy to keep till the values go up,which I'm sure they will
I honestly can't see s/h bike prices changing anytime soon particularity sportsbikes. Its a shrinking market. There is a much smaller market now, credit is harder to come by and no ones job is entirely safe anymore. Don't buy a bike as investment, buy it to ride and enjoy. As mentioned these days you are as likely to get a good p/ex when buying new but you have the same caveat in that dealers are not keen to take sportsbikes as they struggle to sell them on.
I got a px price last year of 3500 against a new blade but the dealership was always a bit naff. As we all do I want to get as much money from the sale to put against new bike and would have thought I'd get more private than px. Plus got another bike that if I sell the 999 Ill sell as well then won't be far off having a full cash purchase with a bit of finance.
