My friend is having my 696 monster off me, lovely bike but at 6'3 have always felt i was a wee bit tall for it, i was looking to get the 1100 evo monster, but after seeing a hypermotard in the flesh i have actually fallen in love with it's strange looks, now the question is do i get a 10 plate 1100s with 3500 miles and kitted out with twin termi's for just under 7 grand or do i go for a 2010 evo sp with 4000 miles, twin termi's, carbon tank cover, rad guard, evotech tail tidy, heel plates, ducati performance seat, crash sliders and probably more for just under 9 grand, the extras on the evo sp are something i would be looking to get done to the 1100s but would probably cost less than a grand, so the question is, which should i get? i have only had the monster a few months after 7 - 8 years without a bike, and even then i only had ridden for about 2 years so i'm really only a novice, but i plan on getting some advance riding school knowledge at some point soon. any advice would be appreciated
id probably try to make an offer on the SP to close the gap a little more. The SP is the newer engine which spins up faster I think , I believe it should also have the newer switch gear and dash (evo range) and it is the most up to date of the 'older' models, arguably more hardcore than the latest versions. Equally at 6ft 3 myself I'd prefer the taller position of the sp and I'd like the ground clearance. but that's me, if I'm buying a bike like a hyper I like them to be the race spec type, I like the KTM SMR 990 for example. having said that, if you have the circa £9k budget, and your not that fussed on having the race orientated versions it might be worth looking for/enquiring about an ex demo new version hyper 821 (dealers must be about to move some of them on) smoother engine, traction control, longer range, abs(?) , comfier seat stock and ultimately there are cheaper exhausts to have with IMO better Hyper pedigree than the termis. SC project for example have been doing race systems for the hypers for years and have a new system for the newer model for less than £400, they've also just released a low slung version so you can fit panniers still which is a great idea as I like the single sided cans myself - DUCATI HYPERMOTARD 821 To be fair, they're all great bikes and I was so close to buying one myself and still ultimately want one, I'm just waiting for a used 821 SP
There's actually an SP on ebay with less than 1500 miles and for £7k Can't be that bad condition,I'd have a butchers at that then get a sc-project pipe, some velocity stacks and get it tuned
cheers for advice, got the 2010 evo sp, so would a tuning be my first port of call? new to all this malarky but what is tuning going to do for me, real world, and what should i ask for, would probably get it done at ducati coventy, unless anyone can suggest a better alternative in the west mids (Solihull area) thanks
before you get anything 'tuned' I'd recommend you get your exhaust, air filter mods lined up and ready or you'll only have to go get it all done again.
do you guys know how much a ex-demo Hypermotard (not Hyperstrada) 2013 should cost? I always thought you should get at least a 20% off so around £8,000?
Have you tried both monster and hypermotard yet? I couldn't get on with the riding position of the hyper and found the monster much more comfortable. Depends on your shape but also how far you ride. What doesn't hurt after 10 miles might after 40 or 50. I wouldn't spend anything on extras until you know you are going to keep the bike for some time or don't mind losing money fast unless you get secondhand extras. If you end up changing the bike soon you wont get much return on the shiny shiny stuff if you get it new.
cheers, had a 696 monster for about 4 months had the comfort handlebars fitted and it was fairly comfortable but all my friends commented on it being a small bike, and after seeing a photo of myself on it i looked like a clown riding around on a mini moto have bought a 2010 hypermoto eve sp, with lots of extras, although it hasn't stopped me from ordering about a grands worth of extras (free fitting) only had test ride on it so far but i felt a lot happier with it, waiting for parts to arrive so should have it in a couple of weeks and my smaller mate ended up having my monster off me (a very good deal considering the extras i put on it)
pick it up in two weeks, got it from italia moto in lincoln, may still be on website, it's the 2010 evo sp, will post some pics when i pick it up if anyone interested
Before..... After...... i think i made the right choice, but happily enough my friend had my monster and he loves it
they were off the 2013? anniversary monster, so they were OEM mirrors, got them from Ducati Coventry, if memory serves they were about £100 for the pair
