Went to look at a 2000 748R with the Showa's front and rear is there a discernible difference in real life use between these and the later iteration R's with Ohlins ?
Real world probably tricky to tell on the road. The Ohlins bikes are very good having said that. BUT And it’s a big but, The Mark 1’s are significantly cheaper. Many thousand pounds. Some prefer the cut out fairings on mark 1’s too. Both are great bikes. Gen 2 is probably more desirable (according to market prices). If you are buying to ride pure and simple, nothing wrong with a mark 1.
Excellent to hear, I prefer the cut outs too for sure also buying to ride and keep so future value is of no interest many thanks for the reply
Happy to help. It’s a while since I looked but the mark ones often stick with dealers for a very long time. So bargain really hard.
Desmo service at 15000 too. Not just belts. Just in case the one you are looking at us approaching this mileage. That would be a significant bargaining chip.
@cookster 853 bike on eBay would be my choice. That’s been there for a long long time so deal to be done there. And it’s an 853! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DUCATI-7...p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
Yes I saw that yesterday whilst searching and had actually read up earlier this week on the 853 conversion on Bikeboy.org and Sigma sites, colour me interested, 2001 too with the superior fairings! Though it is quite a distance from me so closer to my funds being available I may take a trip down if it is still available as it seems like the perfect combo of everything
Pretty sure a 2000 748R should have an Ohlins rear shock. Belt change required annually or 7500 miles whichever comes first. It should also be yellow. Andy
Both marks came in yellow and red. Yellow was more popular on mark 1 but mark 2 red was more popular (and better).
748sp, 748sps and first gen 748R were only available in yellow/white. Can't remember who posted the link now. Andy
Showa/Ohlins front only really makes a valuation difference. On the road I bet there is no difference, on the track you would have to be really pushing it to notice the better Ohlins. As for the best colour......
