Nostromo’s Tardis

  1. Hi all
As I’ve had another Italian addition, I thought I would make a joint thread for my 749 projects.

Some of you may have seen my Radical corsa evo build, this is still ongoing albeit slowly. I want that bike to be something special, so I have refocused the plan,I am now aiming for a radical but with rs parts/spec. First I will be stripping the paint from the engine and giving it a fresh paint job, with some cera coated covers finished off with some ti bolts and stm slipper clutch.

But before I can continue with the radical, I must tidy up my other 749.

I started today by fitting a new battery, fuel couplings, mirror glass and some new levers. After getting the side panels of I was treated with a load of grime. Will have to give it a good deep clean at some point this week.

  3. Good progress today, rearsets, sprocket cover and chain adjusters fitted( Cheers @Sev )

I let the bike run abit, lovely bit of rusty water oozed from the clutch.
    F7C021AD-1523-4079-8907-928F26B91CB4.jpeg

The bike kept dropping revs to zero, even when holding a constant throttle position.
After reading an older thread, there are a few things I can try, starter relay, crank sensor, horizontal cylinder coil.
Luckily I have all the above spare.:yum

  4. Some good progress today, I started by making up a led setup similar to the new rage stuff. 138F72DF-FBFB-4B93-9AFC-536B3819DE72.jpeg 9CA34398-F66D-41D0-9551-6D8EF1251548.jpeg AA8A49BC-A82E-4CE5-8294-7854E21ADA98.jpeg 718D1ED5-C443-4385-A498-66C1D19103A6.jpeg 15F48E9E-4950-4498-80CC-31B46912F857.jpeg B815D946-0F5A-47B4-A0B9-E8255DFCDC3F.jpg
The static brake light is very bright, not much difference to when the brake is actuated, might remove it if I can’t find a solution.

So the 749 dark would cut out after a short period during idle, and when revved hard.
I swapped the horizontal coil as I had a intermittent error code( now gone ) but did not help the cutting out. I then got another code 34.0 sensor error, after some forum creeping I found that a user on the us forum stated it was the crank position sensor causing the error(even though the code is for the sensor in the dash). I was going to swap the sensor for my spare, but noticed the connection from the loom was folded in half, and that there was a spacer on the crank sensor that was not present on my other bike, I removed it and straightened the cable best I could. Started the bike and boom started with no issues no chugging just started, the bike held idle no issue and was hovering around 1.250 as a posed to 1k before, revved up to 3k with no cutout then 6k with no cutout, then to 13k revs dropped back to idle then briefly then cut out. I jiggled the wire abit and tryed again, revved up to 13k and it held revs when it dropped back down to idle!
So I think I’m going to cut the cable from the loom to just before where it was bent and make the ends off again, and see if I get consistent behaviour.

The cable was twisted 180 degrees at the back of the plug, and folded in half mid way up the boot.

Anyway I’m happy that I am getting closer to a runner!

  5. Little update

The dark is now road legal but still having some issues, but getting lots of help from you guys and it’s greatly appreciated!

Nothing done to the radical other than some engine stands purchased(will post a pic when I have them on the engine.

Added some bits to the dark, new tank pad and cap, I also have some techspec grips to fit, new oring for the pump as well.
Swapped out the clutch plates from the radical to do some fault finding on the bike cutting out, also fitted my stm plate and ducabike springs and cover. 844B899B-2226-4661-9B7E-A5956FA34B59.jpeg 0EFA1E24-EC35-4596-84DB-1EC109EEEA14.jpeg I saw a carbon covered swing arm on eBay a few weeks back that looked quite interesting, so I put in a bid and won, needs abit of tidying up but should look nice when fitted. 9B243385-977A-4D96-B5EF-720993A11821.jpeg

going to try and get the dark reliable over the next few weeks, then I will fit the arm with a new sprocket and chain.

  6. Lovely! The carbon cover made the old style swingarm actually look good! Totally worth making the switch! :upyeah:

  7. Cheers Sev but I might be going led, either the new rage ones or custom mounting plates for the cloned panigale ones.

  8. So I will be starting a new job next month, it’s a tad further than my current place so I convinced the Mrs that I needed a more suitable bike for the journey.
I came home with this yesterday....

The lad seems happy with it, and it sounds amazing. There’s not much I can do to this one, as it’s pretty kitted out. Oz wheels, termis and lots of carbon and rizoma bits.
Only thing it needs are baffles!

anyway, so this frees up the 749 dark, aiming to refresh the front end at some point next week.
I have some paint for the fork lowers, stainless pinch and calliper bolts and some beringer callipers to fit.
Should look and feel a lot better.

  9. A lot of fettling today, 749 is running better.
Also had some time to paint the fork lowers, will pop the beringers on tomorrow.

  10. I was planning on fitting the new brakes today, but I’ve decided to wait until my new brake disc bolts arrive. I can get the front end completely sorted then.

So after everyone had gone to bed, I sat downstairs with the doggo and put on some music. Then I remembered I had some excess vinyl wrap from doing my fireblade side infills.
So I thought I would wrap a seat cowl I bought a couple of months ago for the dark.
Came out ok, i had a little tear but managed to make it look like a tiny crease.

  11. Another late evening tinker, beringers fitted with stainless hardware, stainless pinch bolts, hugger bolts and ti disc bolts. Triple clamp bolts are next on the list.
    Very nice looking callipers....

  12. Been awhile but the projects still moving.
The base bike I was using will now be built back into a s, but with some r bits.
Already secured the r tank, will look at getting the carbon fairings before the end of the year.

I may build the radical as a hybrid, radical tank and rear fairing with the 999/749 front fairings.

first off is tidying up the 749s engine, frame was removed today. Degreasing and touch up paint to be done tail end of next week. Soon as that’s done I can strip down the dark for the same treatment. If I can source another engine stand for cheap I will do both at the same time. 53E47ACE-9EEF-44E9-9526-167D4A0FDA91.jpeg 60A4F9B5-0A7A-427F-AF45-2C8179B27AF3.jpeg 44E9F592-59EF-4A24-9546-4A56A4F4401C.jpeg 513801C4-4950-4C71-AD47-0865A46E01BE.jpeg 5DB4237F-4C55-4494-BDA1-4FFE777CC2D2.jpeg
    A good example

  14. Stunning bike by areta americana, rear indicators are hidden under the metal covers on the tail.

  15. So had abit of a spending spree, picked up a full carbon tail section, nose cone, speedymoto top clamp(cheers @rich8778) and new ecu for the dark.
Dressed up the radical in the bits I’ve got for the 749s. I only have to do minor cutting on the subframe, so happy about that.
