Apologies if this isn't the right forum, I'm sure Admin will move if required. Fast bikes have uploaded their 2021 review of the current crop of super naked's, I won't give anything away but I'm surprised where a few placed. Enjoy!
Thank you, my local magazine stockist don't seem to stock any monthly bike mags, just MCN so was struggling to find a copy. Andy
They should have used the KTM 1290 SD RR really That would have definitely been a different outcome Not that I’m biased or anything And i would have obliged
I see you've swapped the god awful slip on that you get on the RR. I'm happy with my Gen3... be interesting to see what the Evo brings, electronic suspension seems to be the biggy.
Most of what they said about the Triumph was incorrect. The clutch action is perfect; maybe they didn’t understand the anti stall feature.. The abs, tc & maps have lots of levels, inc track. The price isn’t £17k. & for a road test, why wasn’t range a feature? Is it because the SF will only do around 80 miles.
Why was this not in the show ? Presenting the Suzuki GSX-S1000 at circa £11,000. Or like mine in Black..
Probably because Suzuki themselves see the Z1000 and MT10 as direct competition, not the hyper naked. Andy
Seen this in the flesh for the first time last week, And have to say its far better looking up close and personal even the stacked headlights look quite cool! And at the OTR price is definitely worth considering
It's not really a super naked, more of an all round bike. Engine is it's best feature but a bit bland, handling is poor and brakes not so good. Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Unless looking for cutting edge track material..Handling is poor? I am sure the chassis is not poor and if needed, for not much money, shock upgrade..maybe, tyres and a set up it is a fine handling bike. That said, most bikes benefit from set up..Brakes...for road use I would be amazed at being poor. I have had not had motorcycle in the last 15 years with anything less than excellent brakes. Back in 2008 my FZ1s gave most things a run for their money on the road. Only upgrade was the rear shock and tyres. Most of the hypersports/supernakeds will not be used at even 8/10s on the road. The odd one will see trackdays, where some will be used at 9/10s. Having owned an S1r, various sportsbikes, and an S1r naked, hand on heart, none could be used close to the performance available in the UK. Pyrenees and the N260, the S1 got me close to my max ability, but nowhere near the bikes. Most riders and users would benefit from being realistic about ability.
I fail to see the point of bikes like the V4SF. You have all the benefits of 200bhp but cant use any of it. Anything over 90 and you'll need a neck like Sontoran from Dr Who. Plus its even uglier than the v4. The 1290 does have huge dollops of torque, which makes more sense to me.
Big fuck off powerful bikes are play things though. No practicality to them at all really. Big boy's toys. Or silly old bastards toys (I include myself here...) Super nakeds' are a bit like the SUV's of the bike world. A bit pointless but a bit of a hoot too.
Theres a difference between buying a silly toy you dont make use of the additional power from because you arent capable of due to skill, than there is from a silly toy you cant make use of teh additional power from because you arent capable due to limitations of its design. I understand driving an suv but if you had to go off road, you could. But a naked if you had to do 190+, you simply cannot without basically turning it into the faired version. I'd just buy the V4. The V4SF is an inane waste of time. But I appreciate that not everyone is as rational as I am.
I think that's the difference, having a huge lump of torque low down in the rev range compared to 200bhp above 8K in the rev range is where these bikes/engines need to be focussing. You're never going to say no to more power are you? It's bragging rights down the pub innit
I guess it's about it's intended use, if it's on a track you'd go for a 200bhp sportsbike, better handling, ergo's, brakes, electronics etc etc. For the road it would be a waste 99% of the time. Whereas a supernaked can probably achieve 99% of what it's faired counterpart can, go on roads that you just wouldn't even contemplate on a sportsbike, and have nearly as much fun on track, yes you're never going to be as quick, but hustling a flat barred animal and probably smoking a few Marquez wannabee's in the process is always fun.
