Seats on 2013 Model

  1. I'm finding the seat on the 2013 model uncomfortable. I never had a problem on my old 2010 model during the 16,000 miles of ownership.

There is a bit more front to backspace on the 2013 seat however after about 50 miles it gets uncomfortable despite trying to move about on the seat.

I've now purchased the 2013 lowered seat, it is a lot better. Unfortunately this seat has a ridge at the rear about 20mm before the pillion seat, which I can feel. It's almost like they used the foam blank from the 2010 lowered seat.

Anyone else traded up and found the seat not as comfortable?

  2. No problems on my 2013.

  3. Hi Steve
Mate I understand what you are saying . The 2013 seat is narrower than my 2011 and I feel the foam is more " dense " and may take a while to get used to .
I've done the aftermarket seat thing many times before and to be quite honest sometimes they are no better .
So I'm just going to stick it out for 6 months and then decide .
I've only got 1000km on mine now , but I'm doing a 600km trip tomorrow so I'll see how I feel tomorrow night ;-)
    Cheers

  4. Steve, I have come from a gixer, so I think this seat is like heaven!
i have done a couple of trips of 200 miles in a day and found no probs.
Didn't bother with the lower seat after advice from this site so can't comment.

  5. Very comfy on mine no problem.

  6. Mine's much more comfy than my last bike, which was a Blackbird. What about the Grand Tourismo seat? I think it's got more padding than the S Touring.

Good luck. A numb bum after 50 miles must be a big disappointment.

  7. Luckily not a numb bum, just no where near as comfortable as the old 2010 seat. Back in the early 80s I rode a Pantah down to the South of France - the seat was so bad I had to use pain killers :)

I might have a look to see if the Grand Tourismo seat has more padding. Thanks for the idea.

  8. You could eat more pies...

  9. Just buy a 2010/2012 seat for your 2013,it will fit :upyeah:

  10. Totally agree Steve, Don't have any experience regarding the 2010 model but I am experiencing A*se sting / ache after about 80 miles on my 2013 S Touring and find myself moving around and standing up to try and find relief.

I have just purchased the GT comfort seat set as I am going down through Germany and into Austria next week, so that should be a good test for the new set up.

Anyone with the GT find any problems with seat comfort??

  11. Just got back from a 600km round trip - Awesome Bike !
Steve I actually don't mind the seat. It was starting to grow teeth about 450km , only stopped for fuel and coffee .
But I think that's OK really . But everyone is different , and there are lots of alternatives for you so good luck with whatever you decide to do .
    Cheers

  12. I found the standard 2013 seat uncomfortable after around 50 mins riding. Thought it would "break-in" a little more over time and be a non issue. Unfortunately it never got any better. In the end I replaced both pillion and rider seats for Sargent units. I finally have all day comfort! Not the cheapest but unquestionable quality and support.
Its worth noting though that if your already at a stretch to get your feet down then the Sergant may cause you some issues. Whilst its no higher it is slightly wider so you will lose leg reach. I am 5' 11" in old money and its no issue for me.

  13. Hi, could you please post some nice pictures of the Sargents seats please. £404.00 with the red piping, ouch. Need a good look first. Cheers.

  14. Sure . Ill get some up at the weekend as I am working away currently.

They offer a 14 day return (or there about). So if for whatever reason you don't get on with it you simply return it for a full refund. for years '12 onwards you have to have both the front and rear units. You cant use the OEM seats in part configuration.

  15. Test rode a GT today and the seat is not as comfortable as my 2010 T seat, it may be that it will take a while to wear in, it was a low mileage demo bike.
