For me the highlight of trips to Misano for WDW was the chance to meet Paul Smart for a chat. What a delightful man. May you rest in peace, Paul.
Sad news today that Paul Smart, winner of the Imola 200 Mile race on a Ducati passed away yesterday following an accident while riding his motorbike between East Sussex and Kent. I saw him race many times in the late 60’s and early 70’s and he was a great rider. Memorable not only as a works Ducati rider but also for his achievements on the Rob North Triumph Trident in the Anglo - USA Match Races. He rode Ducati’s, Yamaha’s, Seeleys as well as Suzuki’s, Triumphs and Kawasaki’s before he retired in 1978. In 2006 Ducati dedicated a motorcycle in his name, the Ducati PaulSmart 1000 LE. Condolences to his family.
Saw the news yesterday but didn't want to post it up, kind of didn't want to believe it. A Ducati Statesman, not many have a Ducati Model named after themselves but Paul Smart did. Thoughts with the family and Friends.
This is pure supposition, but looking at the details I wouldn’t mind betting the Ford Focus was pulling out of either T&J’s or Combwell Priory Farm.
According to a local newspaper they were asking for witnesses or dashcam footage. If the distance quoted in the report is correct, it's the farm access on the right.
