Potential New Ducati Owner

  1. Good afternoon.......I am currently looking at a Multistrada 1200 2018, hope to test ride on Monday weather permitting....
Currently ride Triumph Tiger 1050 Sport, that is only a year old but it hasn't excited me, came from Triumph Explorer 1215 which I now regret changing, but every cloud...
So for those Multi owners what should I be looking for when I test ride
    Thankyou

  2. If it's an S with Skyhook suspension...

You need to set the front preload manually with a spanner. Rear preload is electronic through the dash. It's likely set too soft out of the box, you can set rear preload for each mode.

The rider seat has two settings, high and low.

Urban mode will lower the suspension marginally, ideal for confidence, conversely Enduro mode will raise the bike. Touring is likely "everyday" mode, Sport mode is for smooth roads when you want maximum composure and attack.

Tyre pressures are very important, it's sensitive to them. Michelin Road 5 seem to be the preferred tyre choice of many (including me).

Hill hold is good, but only holds for a few seconds and then releases.

I've never heard anyone that uses the Bluetooth / Media stuff for more than a novelty, same with the connected app (although it's fun to see lean angle).

Many people (me included) change the screen and fit screen spacers to minimise buffeting (MRA screen and Iconic spacers in my case).

Ducati Performance / Touratech accessories are pretty good (comfort seats are excellent), for protection Evotech Performance is great. Slip on Termignoni exhaust is actually a bit nicer sounding than stock can, but not really louder.

Electric fuel cap is notorious for failing, mine's been OK though (touch wood).

A lot of Multis wander slightly to the left when riding no-handed. If the bike weaves under very hard acceleration then increase rear preload, check tyre pressures and chain tension and front preload. If the tyres are worn then this can contribute to that.

    :)
