No apology necessary, that's completely understandable. I've flirted with idea of getting a 1299s but if i did would always be thinking i should have bought the V4 and have done with it. I just want one that's a bit different, whilst still modern, to keep. That way i'll always feel i have something special in the garage then i can swap my 2nd bike at will - finances allowing that is. If that makes sense.
Ha ha switch to Suzuki! Imagine if i rode it and it was all i ever wanted in a bike!!! Not taking that chance. (my mate has the GP inspired gixxer and it's lovely) At least the 1299s has ohlins as a special touch to make me feel a bit special
For £18k you could probably get a very nice Panigale R, gen 2. I sold my V4s for one. Not regretted that move once. It’s an R so is very special indeed. Mine in this link…. https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/last-ride-on-the-r-this-year.88517/
woah that's a very nice machine mate indeed! Don't think i've ever seen an R in the flesh.. Hmmm now you got me thinking.
Personally I wish i hadn’t bought my Panigale V2, I wish I’d have bought a lightly used 959 corse as I think I’d probably still own a Ducati if I’d have done that. So for me I don’t think the Baylis is worth it.
Genuine answer. V4s is a better bike But V2 motor has sooo much more character. The last of the line. It’s challenging to ride well, which I like. It has manual suspension which I prefer. It fits me better as it’s very narrow at the front of the seat. The components are all top drawer. I can sit in the garage with a beer and just stare at it for hours. The standard Akra system is perfect- enough noise to sound angry (courteous of my dad that one) without being daft loud. If I wanted to brag, I’d buy an SL. But it wouldn’t be the v4 version.
Mostly why I bought a 1299S instead of another S1000RR. I haven't ridden anything that brakes, turns in and drives out of corners better. But I am missing the top end pull of a 4 cylinder engine...
I had the s1000rr out for half a day when I was thinking of chopping the V4s. Incredible bike. 30 to 150 mph in 5th with no glitches. Cruise. Sat nav. Heated grips etc etc. No soul. Hence Pani R.
100% agree with this. I have a 959 and thought about a Bayliss as opposed to a a V4 (S, probably, if I did it). I don't see the extra money in the Bayliss. If it were me I'd consider keeping the 959 (I have a 1098s too but am looking to move it on) and upgrading it as suggested (suspension and a wrap/decal kit that personal to you)?
Interesting. I did always intend to buy the 959 corse but time passed and something new and shiny came along. What didn’t you like about the V2 if you don’t mind?
I have considered this option but not investigated costs yet or what kind of colour scheme I’d choose. I saw a 959 the other day that had a wrap to match an anniversario which although had been done well (1299 changed for 959) it didn’t sit well with me so I wouldn’t go down that route. I don’t want to imitate anything I just want my own special creation.
