749 Standard Chain Length

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Phil H, Nov 1, 2021.

  1. Hi all, I am about to cut and fit my chain, and on the measure twice cut once...
    I am running standard sprockets 14f39r what length does the chain need to be, I have read 96 and 98. The WM I have says 96 ( black swing arm) but mine is grey, is it still 96? I have offered it up and I think 96 looks right. tyre to swingarm clearance is OK but I will be putting a new tyre on so it will decrease.

  2. I don’t know the specific for your bike but the chain adjuster looks very far forward at the moment. This will pull back as you adjust the chain clearly but there doesn’t look like a lot of slack on it right now. From the pics I would guess another link or two. Hopefully someone with this bike can help.
    @RickyX ?

  3. I have 520 chain 14/39 on a black swing arm. Pretty sure mine is 98.

    EDIT: isn’t standard 15t front?

  4. That's the reason I was asking as it looks too tight to me

  5. I went off the WM
