1260 1260 Charger Fit

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by benjit, Nov 7, 2021.

  1. Help please!

I have this older battery maintainer.

    3 questions:

Will this work on a 1260?

Is there a pre fitted charging port on a 1260?

Is there and adapter that will allow my charger to fit directly to the bike?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. It looks to me like this has the same type of connector as the Optimate model I've got. If it's got one square and one half round bottom edge male end, then it will work. Readily available on-line. Photo attached for reference Optimate battery terminal connector.JPG

  3. There is a lead from Optimate that plugs directly into the diagnostic port under the seat that then connects to the charger. However, I this has the more modern (SAE?) socket that they now use instead of the Tamiya connector that they used to fit,, and your charger has. You could buy one of these leads and then a Tamiya connector from the likes of eBay and get 'jiggy' with a soldering iron...

  4. Brilliant. That’s the female end that connects to your charger - is it an a
mine is, as you say, like a tamiya plug (male end on the charger).

I think you are saying I need to go Tamiya to SAE and then SAE to Ducati port? I wonder if I can fit 2 in line adapters to avoid soldering!!!

    will take a look.

  5. Sorry about the weird / disjointed replies - went from phone to iPad and it got muddled!

It looks like I could do it with 2 x optimate kits. 017 (TM to SAE) and 047 (SAE to Ducati) for the grand sum of £39! I can get the Ducati one online for £66.

Can anyone recommend a better option?

    Thanks.

  6. Yeah, buy a connector off eBay for pennies and crimp it together.

  8. I was thinking that - I can just buy a battery to Tamiya connector and use that - I assume there’s no issue with going straight to the battery with the CANBUS etc?
    Thanks.

  9. If my current charger is good enough I think I’m ok just getting the battery to Tamiya lead?

  10. Yep. Exactly what I do. Lead attached directly to battery with plug left under the seat. Connect charger as required.

  11. Thanks - that’s turned £70 into less than £10!

  12. Your converter lead is around £3, I got one last week.
