Sat nav mount again 2013 model specific

  1. Other than Navihalter there appears to be no other means of positioning the Sat Nav above the clocks where it is easier to view . I thought I would have a go at fabricating a bracket that would fit onto the bike (2013) without altering or modifying any of the bikes original equipment. On my 2011 model I made a mount which had a fixed position making it a bit more tricky to get the unit square against the clocks, on this bracket I opted for a Ram ball mount which allows adjustment to the users preference. This unit was fabricated in my shed using basic tools including a mig welder and angle grinder ( I am honing my welding skills and perfecting my angle grinder technique) View attachment 17381 View attachment 17382 View attachment 17383 View attachment 17384 View attachment 17385 View attachment 17386 View attachment 17387 View attachment 17388 Its a bit of a prototype but actually works very well the bracket uses the two upper screen mounting bolts together with two wire hooks which give additional vertical stability. The ball mount touches the screen (separated by a rubber grommet, this gives additional stability to the mount. I tried the mount without the top crossbar however stability was poor. please feel free to pass comment and give constructive criticism together with any creative thoughts please. The mount will obviously get a nice satin black topcoat. JB

  4. There is definitely a gap in the market for a proper fitting one for the 2013 with the new screen adjuster. The Navihalter is touted as fitting the 2013 but will make any screen adjustment problematic without modification. Ive got money burning a hole in my pocket for an off the peg ready made solution that just works.

You have a very neat solution there. Powder coated in black I would buy that! You up for making another ? :D

  5. Very tidy. I think it would look less conspicuous painted satin black though.
I tried a making mount in a similar position on the lines of the Navihalter but wasn't very happy with it. I ended up simply attaching the RAM ball to the cross piece but it's not very steady. I might have a go at fabricating something along the lines of your's. Thanks for posting it.

  6. Ram ball directly onto one of the bolts of the handlebar clamp ?

It is then below the dash rather than above it but still perfectly visible.

  7. As we speak the satin black coat is drying, rushed the spray a little bit and its not as good as I would like.
This one allows full access to the adjuster and allows a full range of movement, I will run this one on trial for a few weeks and if it works well I may well cobble a few together for sale. JB

  8. Yes, but you have to take your eye too far from the road for my liking.

  9. JB, very neat. I'll have one if you go into production!!.

  11. That's how I've mounted mine but I've got it so it just covers the gear position indicator on the dash and something else but I can't remember what. You don't need to take your eyes off the road any more than you would if you were dicking about changing engine mode or flicking from one fuel trip to another so it works well for me.
