Streetfighter V2

  1. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger, just waiting for some more info on an alternative bike before I jump

  2. Cool, will you be adding wings? I would.

  3. The seat height of 845mm means is a showstopper for me. I can just manage the V2 Panigale as it's got a narrow seat, but they make a thing of how the SF V2 has a wider seat than the Panigale V2.

I'll be going with a Speed Triple 1200 RS - 178 BHP, full Ohlins, cruise control, navigation, and, imo, better build quality, for £500 more than SF V2.

I could be tempted into a SF V2 if it was lower and higher spec, even if it was a bit more money.

What are you considering as your alternative?

  4. Superduke 1290 gen 3 evo, full electronic wp suspension and possibly some other tweaks

The triumph is a great looking bike but I'd have a good read through some Facebook groups, they've had a fair few build problems themselves. Still great though

Tbh I don't know which to go with, had and loved the Superduke so hold no issue with ktm, tried the v4 SF and it was great, but for £21k, 80 Miles to a tank and no fuel gauge, cc etc I just thought it'd be a pain in the arse to use over any distance, might be wrong though

The v2 SF looks fine to me, still probably no fuel gauge although I hope it does, but it'll get an extra 50% range I reckon (120-130 Miles) but at £15k I'll hold fire to see the Superduke evo spec first

  5. SFV4SP looks the nuts.

V2SF reminds me of Teresa May.

  6. Thanks, yes, those issues are exactly why I'm waiting for the second year of production of the new Speed Triple. I'd say they are relatively minor first gen design / production issues (exhaust valve cover snapping off, not enough torque on engine covers), but I think the build quality is generally higher than Ducati.

This was taken of a dealer's demo SF V4, I expect better from a 20K bike.

Then, unless Ducati have had a change of policy with their 'baby' models, the V2 won't have clear coat / lacquer protecting the paint, will have fasteners made of cheese, etc.

All things being equal, a Streetfighter V2 would be my preference, and I'm prepared to pay a premium, but it's got to be right for that premium price point.

  7. If there's no clear coat I'm unlikely to buy tbf

That said I'd probably get it painted and tricked out anyway, but paint spec is something I'd like to know about

  8. No, most certainly will not be adding wings--for me they`re just a pose and useless at road speeds. Heated grips and a screen will go on but that`s all. A lowered (-20mm ) seat is available BTW.
The V2 will be replacing a Gen 3 SDR which I`ve had since april`20.- a great bike overall but time for a change now. The KTM warranty expires after 2 years and no extended warranty available in UK (at present)......KTM aren`t renow---ned for generosity regarding warranty claims according to owners forums. Don`t want to pay extra for the leccy suspension on the `22 SDR Evo . Prior to that I had a Speed Trip RS (UK produced then)which wasn`t for me--it followed a succession of many Ducatis. No doubt in my mind the Ducatis had better build quality . Most press reports seem to think Ducatis are better finished than their competitor brands. I had a couple of minor electronic glitches with the KTM--easily sorted ---so I`m wary of more electronics (suspension) being added. Modern bikes aren`t for home mechanics or most independent specialists any more--hence my comments on warranties. £16K is my limit in any case-hence the V2

  9. imo, most press reports don't review bikes as a long term ownership prospect - I think I've seen two reviews that mentioned lack of clear coat, and both where they'd actually laid out cash - Baron Von Grumble when he bought an 899, and said paint was rubbing onto his leathers. Missenden Flyer also had his PPF'd for same reason.

I'm sure the SF V2 will be a great bike, it's just frustrating that they cut corners. If they did a V2 S with clear coat, I'd be there like a shot - which is exactly why I didn't buy a 959, but jumped on the 959 Corse (which had lacquer for the matte paint)

  10. Current exchange rate on the proposed evo USA pricing puts the UK list at about £16k and a bit, I'll hold until I hear more but failing that the SF V2 or even v4s will probably get the look in.

My only thing on the v4s isn't really the price, but the limited range and pain in the ass that causes over longer distance stuff like my regular Germany trips and especially without a fuel gauge.

Still haven't made my mind up yet and might even keep the XR so I can use that for longer range rides

  11. to be fair fuel warning light always came on in the 80s but i often pushed to 100+ miles before refueling. lack of fuel gauge is a pain tho

  12. At the time I got the SDR the V4SF was top of the list but I too was put off by the poor range of the Ducati. Would have been a pain for me as well. I usually got 120 to 140 miles range from the SDR and expect the V2 SF to be around the same which is fine for me.
"Fasteners made of cheese"---both the Speed triple and SDR had these so it`s not just a Ducati issue. Problems with original fixings breaking and/or rounding off happened when fitting radguard and luggage rack to the Ktm and similarly on the Speed T ---and no I`m not hamfisted!!

  13. If it's similar to the Panigale V2 then I'd say the quality is 'average'. There's a lot of nicely thought out parts but some real poor bits, like on my V2, within 1k miles I could see the paint wearing thin on the tank in some places, that's even with me using loads of acrylic polish to give it a protection coat, the fasteners etc were 'okay' but the black allen head ones all started to rust up, even with liberal application of ACF50.

Ref earlier talk of seat heights, I never liked the higher seat of the V2 versus the 899 (Especially the 899) but I did notice on the V2 they list a low seat as well, I know we are only talking about 10-20mm but it might help.

  14. Thanks. I was interested in the SF V4, also too tall, and someone on here said they'd tried the allegedly lower seat, and it made no difference, so I wasn't prepared to gamble 20K (or, 15K in V2 case) to find out for myself ;)

  15. The lower seat made no difference when I bought one and measured it .
Off the bike it is lower than the standard seat but when you sit on the bike the soft standard seat compresses while the low seat doesn’t move, it was like a park bench. My arse felt like it had been burgled on the one run out I had.

As for mpg every run out I have got 90–93 miles before the fuel light. That is fuelling the bike sitting upright on it.
Max on reserve I have risked is 32 miles.
Still couldn’t get the claimed fuel capacity in it when I refilled it.
This is a 2021 Streetfighter V4 in sports mode. Never even tried any other mode.

  16. I take it those range figures are for the V4 SF ?

  17. Same for me. Slightly less since I got the Akrapovic as I seem to be revving it more lol. Have you noticed any difference running it in street mode I.e lower power mode? I’m thinking of a mini tour next year so if it’s better on the fuel in street mode I’ll do the motorway bits on half power.

  18. It's going to be around 17K and some, I booked my Gen3 in for a service a week ago and discussed the possible shift to the Evo thus knowing it will be around that ballpark. They didn't have specs but will include a few powerparts.

Have a look at the below thread, couple of spy shots on page 2: -

  19. Seen the insta posts today from ktm and been looking at their site. Looks pretty slick actually. Might have fired off an email or two making enquiries during a moment of weakness

Also discussed the SF V2 with a dealer so my trigger finger is getting itchy o_O

  20. Looks like the journos are testing the SF V2 today, will be very interesting to see what they* think.

    * journos, and not any influencers who get to go along
