V4 Luggage Options

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by ymfb, Nov 12, 2021.

  1. I originally ordered the travel and radar V4S, my concern has been reduced luggage volume from the last two BMWs. Yesterday the dealer called to say Ducati have decided to offer aluminium luggage as an option, it would be on an external frame, the top case will be smaller and about £1k more.

    Plastic luggage
    Left=35L
    Right=25L
    Top case= 46L
    Total=106L

    Metal
    Left=41L
    Right=35L
    Top case 41L
    Total=117L

    Whilst the bigger panniers would be helpful, no doubt the overall width will increase and £1k for 11 litres is not going to work. (Corrected maths)

    Shame really as we found the GSA panniers very good.

  2. I have a Givi Trekker topb9x on mine, far cheaper than the Ducati option.

    I'm not a fan of panniers but if I wanted them again I would fit soft ones.

  3. In nearly two years of ownership of my 1260 I’ve used the panniers twice, so will be sticking to Kriega soft luggage on the PP when it arrives.

  4. I use Kriega US5,10&20s to keep a spare pair of gloves, the wife’s waterproofs and dirty laundry but it’s not suitable as the bulk storage, we need something that locks.

  5. Are the 1200 /1260 Panniers portable to the MTSV4?

  6. No. Completely different mounting and the exhausts are different.

  7. The mounting arrangement is completely different, as well as the shape - so I say no.

  8. Has anyone fitted aftermarket hard panniers ?

  9. Sw Motech make them.

  10. Motech say their panniers at 102 cm wide and I think the standard plastic are around 100cm so not much bigger and 38 / 38 ltr.
    Plenty of room for a two up trip .

  11. Down 'ere in ZumerZet, we have food waste bins, which have a flick-up, partially lockable lid mechanism.
    They might be useful for the V4, as a top-box and it might even significantly improve the looks. Just saying......:thinkingface:

  12. I’ve also just changed to a V4S from a long line of GSA bikes. When I saw your comment I initially thought it would mean a Touratech/ BMW sized pannier & top box option. I agree that coughing up an extra £1,000 to gain 11 litres isn’t going to do it for me. Especially if it means back to the extra scaffolding.

  13. Luggage …. Small bag , aftershave and a single room … easy 2 weeks

  14. You obviously travel alone, my wife usually accompanies me unless it’s a boys camping trip.

  15. Only one a year , I was talking to the cider swigger , the Ali panniers be it Ducati or Motech are the best for a two up Euro trip ( twice a year) as the plastic ones are too small . On my gs I had the Vario but changed to the Touratech Evo as they were top loaders and with the matching top box could easily do 14 days kit for two of us.

  18. Couldn't agree more ...... wives, partners, girlfriends, however you refer to the woman in your life, should be riding her own bike and if my girlfriend is anyone to go by, ride it a damn sight better than you do. Andy

  19. Panniers for UK touring, soft bags from touratech (ortlieb) for EU.

  20. Work in progress not tested but used before on the GS , not sure about the top box at the moment as it will put the weight up high .
