I will try and book in to test the V4S when I get my bike services, I'd like to fall in love with the PP, I am just struggling to find the "makes sense on paper" part. The bit I also don't get is that Euro emissions standards were meant to be reducing the level of emissions, yet from what gets published in the specs the V4S produces more emissions (162g / km) and uses more fuel on Euro5 than the 1260 Diavel (129g/km) and the 1260 MTS did on Euro 4 (120g /km). If you use the official mileage figures and service intervals to consider cost of ownership, then you will effectively pay in fuel for the V4 what you would have paid on servicing over 35000 miles V2. In these figures the entire V4 platform seems less effective that the V2 its replaced.
Are you talking miles per US gallon or imperial gallon? I’m getting 42mpg (imperial), we’ll 14.9km/litre to be precise.
Well that’s ok. So if it’s a 22ltr tank with say 7ltrs reserve ( which sounds a lot) it gives you 138miles range before the light, which is also ok. Even at a theoretical average speed of 70mph, that’s almost 2hrs in the saddle. More than enough for me, where’s the problem? I don’t get massive tanks, you’re just carrying around dead weight. On the other hand the max range of my Panigale is 100 miles and I mean maximum, that’s a bit restrictive. 140 mile range plus reserve, for me is good. You either like the bike or you don’t.

The outside isn't pretty enough for me. So I'm using the other qualities to try to compensate. I'm sure it's going to be a great bike, I find the concept 50% more attractive than the first V4S but I am not in lust with it.
Range on a full tank shows 360km, fuel light comes on around 60km to go which would imply a refill of at least 18 litres for me (14.9km/ltr) more by the time you get to a petrol station. The most I’ve ever been able to get in so far is 17.5lt. For me 300km in one hit without a leg stretch is plenty .
The new PP looks great, if big for what is a sports version... But, on my 2nd GS, 3rd BMW. Test riding the 1250 version this week. Thick skin not required as they are superb motorcycles. Deal atm with 5 year warranty and 5 years servicing.
I might even take a look at one of these, when my 1260MTS, starts to get a little long in the tooth. God forbid, I can't believe I said that..... I'm even thinking about an MV Tourismo Veloce Lusso too: I like the looks of the new Pikes Peak version, but to get it up to the touring spec' I prefer, it will cost well north of £30k and I don't like it that much TBH
Cant go wrong with the 1250 Gs , just done the Gs range now since 2006 .The V4 for me is a new adventure ....
I have looked at a load of reviews, the V4 Multi looks great, sound nice too the few I have heard on the road. nearest decent dealer though is about 3 hours away, so none starter.
I am lucky as my dealer is 20 mins away and also good ( Worcester Ducati) , 2000 miles in no issues so distance may not be a problem . Gs ownership was not always smooth but fun. Ducati V4 Multi is a great bike , fun , smooth , fast and better looking than the Gs in an Italian way lol
I’ve had 9 GS’s, but can’t imagine ever going back to one. Not until my knackered body needs the comfort of a GS again! Great bikes, but the Multi gives me more of what I want in a bike right now.
It will pain me to say this but I agree 100 % , I would however when at the end of my quest for excitement return for the winter years of my biking life in the security of the Gs which I know after 15 years with the bike will be comforting and a final curtain .
Early ones were dull. 2013 on a bit handy. Things move on and improve. Probably be a gs1300 out by end of next year. KTM might even get a change of clothes. Fugly stick beating... One thing for sure, prices just go one direction!
Ah go on. My nearest, in fact the one and only dealer in ROI, is 4.5hrs away via M-way (boring) and 6hrs not on the M-Way. I very nearly bought a brand new 1250GSA as the BMW dealer is 'only' 105 mins away but am so so glad I made the effort to go and test ride the V4S and then subsequently bought one. I'd be regretting it for evermore had I bought the (very proficient but ultimately boring) GS. Incidentally, whilst I didn't really want a GSA but would have preferred the GS, BMW's bizarre pricing structure meant the GSA was cheaper when they were specced on a like for like basis - go figure.
You just made me calculate the trade-up cost. Here in Canada the MTSV4PP is about $39~40,000 and that's including tax, the touring package and the same carbon bits and add-ons I now have on my 2018 MTS1260PP. I estimate that my dealer would give my 2018 1260PP a trade allowance of about $20~21,000. For the difference in cash that I would have to fork-out to get the 2022 V4 Pikes Peak, I can fetch a brand new S1000RR and keep my 2018 1260PP which has only 17,000kms. Now that was an eye opener. I like the new V4PP but....
