V4 Pikes Peak

  1. I wouldn't disagree that the V4PP is silly money for what it is.

    Other than the forged wheels, there is nothing else that should cost anymore to manufacture than there is on the V4S. Its certainly a premium product with a very premium price. But plenty are happy to pay it and its their money so good luck to them.

  2. I would add the electronic Ohlins but your point is well made. Nothing rational about motorcycles. Like you said, whatever makes you happy and you have the bucks.

  3. I'd be surprised if the Ohlins suspension is any better than the V4S suspension.
     
  4. Lovely lithe bike, a real mistress. Unfortunately if anything like my '16 model Lusso it'll have multiple electrical failures after a year or two, quite a few before then as well, that make you want to get rid. Then you discover that the residuals on them are terrible, no one wants to touch them 2nd hand. Be prepared to take a bath... Cracking engine, handling and brakes for one up. The rear brake needs frequent bleeding though.

  5. It is a bit too steep IMO. It comes out at 31,000 euros with heated grips and panniers here. But, there will be some extra OTR costs pushing it over 32,000. It has just cost me less to buy a diesel SUV with 7speed dct!

  7. imagine it will be better, the question is really if 95% of owners are good enough to exploit the difference :)
     
  8. Just out of interest, where could the Ohlins improve on the S suspension?
     
  9. My guess is more racetrack focused spring rates and damping maps changed to reflect that with the track tuned race mode focusing on track (stating the blooming obvious?) . Im still early doors on my mutley v4s and it feels very road touring biased in its spring and damping setup even in sport mode which works for me in 99.9 etc Percent use cases, though if I had race track smooth roads to ride I may want it a lot stiffer (ooerr missus) .
     
  10. Again to be confirmed as no real information as no bikes to see yet , NEC will have some answers . It will be better as the units are similar to the V4 SF set up but i presume with touring and track in mind with also the additional ability to adjust further than the Marzzoci system.. Will be an interesting visit on the 4th Dec Nec

  12. Adjust-ability is the biggest differentiation with the Ohlins. You can adjust the rebound damping interdependently from the compression damping. Ohlins are known for their quality components. Everyone can service the Ohlins. Ohlins offers a choice of parts for customization.
    When both are new, it's debatable if you can feel the difference on the road unless you're really pushing it and have the experience to feel the subtleties.
     
  13. The new electronic suspension is not just convenient way to adjust for two-up riding and luggage as it was with the previous electronic suspension.
    The Ohlins DES system now controls the suspension while on the fly. It continuously self-adjusts and provides more damping when cornering or when it requires it and less damping when it does not for a smoother ride.

  15. So far, I've had no issues about my current set-up on the manual Ohlins. It's seems plush enough yet firm with no annoying diving.
    I just don't know any better until I demo the new Pikes Peak DES system. Will that make me open my wallet? Don't know but it's still going to be a tough sale.
     
  16. I did wait for the PP coming out before committing, but have decided to stay on the dark side after an R1250gs test ride today. Just placed my order for a new one. My 3rd GS. They keep getting better and the 5 year warranty and servicing offer at the moment here gives peace of mind.
    TBH so many great bikes to choose from these days. Very few bad ones and lots of great ones.
    Nobody will be disappointed with a Multi, GS, 1290adv or whatever fits and floats your boat....happy days and great choices before petrol is banned:upyeah:
    If I see anyone out on a PP I WILL nod. Not all GS riders ignore people on lesser bikes:joy:

  18. @J biker does your 5 year warranty include the ESA? I know their (BMW) standard 3 year warranty didn't cover ESA after 30,000 miles: where as the Mutley V4, 4 year warranty covered the whole bike.
     
  19. 50,000 kilometres. So not 50,000 miles.
    Five years time if things go to plan will have 50k klm. Works for me.

  20. Well , 13 days until I can see the new bike in the flesh at the NEC , can wait . Who needs Christmas lol
