Hi everybody this is my first post (on any forum!) my 2011 multi needs new chain and sprockets and was wondering if anybody has any useful tips to pass on. I've noted that the rear wheel and front sprocket torque setting are really high (230nm & 186nm), what is the best way to hold the rear wheel to loosen and then tighten these nuts. I have access to big torque wrenches ,air tools etc at work. thanks in advance
Did mine last Saturday. It helps if the back brake actually works. The workshop manual says you don't need to remove the clutch slave cylinder - but you do. It also says you do need to remove the back wheel - but you don't. The manual mentions doing up the six nuts on the cush drive rubbers - but it doesn't mention having previously had to undo them. In short, the manual is up to the usual standard.
As above plus don't remove chain first , as that will hold front sprocket (when rear brake is on) to get the T.A.F front sprocket nut undone
If JJC Race & Rally say they have a DID Super Heavy X Ring chain and sprocket set for sale for £186 be wary. Mine ended up as an AFAM set!

Just over 11500 miles, 3000 i've done and the rest the previous owner. I tensioned it last month and since then its stretched another 10mm. The new chain will have the benifit of a tutoro oiler so hopefully it will last a little longer.
11,500 doesn't sound much - unless you have been neglecting/caning the nuts off it. I would hope for something like 15K to 20K.
this is my first ducati i expected it to be harder on chains than a triple or four. But pete is probably right i been enjoying the power/neglecting it plus we've done plenty of two up work, combined weight of 26 stone (me and the misses) plus panniers. I can also see wear on the leading edge of the teeth on the rear sprocket.
mine is now shagged, Neither sprocket looks hooked, but the chain stretched massively on the last trip. It has stretched to the point that I can't adjust it any more. That is at 17k miles, gets used a lot for two up trips, so the chain gets a lot of abuse. I priced up alternatives but the OE set at ~£280 (got a 10% discount so only paid ~250) was the cheapest option.
I bought an OE set from the dealer, which included a DID chain. The chain originally fitted at the factory was actually a Regina, as I found when I took it off. So its seems that "OE" can mean different things.
