Exhausts

  1. Ok, as a non techie I'm getting a bit confused. I've no idea what a BR baffle is.

At this stage I'm only interested in the LV decat/silencer and the stock exhaust, the same as in the vid. To me it looks like there is only a baffle in the decat which by the sound of it on the vid, sounds great.

That's the way I'm gonna go. Just need to find the cheapest place to get one.

I know it sounds a bit like its all about me, that's because when it comes to my MTS, it is :)

  2. No no, it's your bike, so it IS all about you!

The BR Tuning baffle if for the Mivv link pipe. It was made by a chap called Brian, who owns BR special Tuning...this was in response to the fact that people wanted to get rid of the cat, but both the standard end can and Termi stubby have no silencing. The Mivv link pipe was made to fit the Mivv silencers which DO have baffling inside them, however, Mivv also include an extra link pipe so that their decat link pipe works with the standard and Termi stubby end cans....still with me? So, Brian made his baffle to help queen things down, as otherwise you would have a straight through system....as Multi Rider and Finn have/had. I believe Multi Rider had a BR Baffle, but got rid of it on the advice of Chris from CJS tuning (he who remaps the ECU in Bristol) as he said it robs the bike of power. My point, above, was 'yes, it probably does, but then what baffle doesn't.' Hence the point of does the BR baffle reduce power 'more than it should'.

That is a question specifically for me, as my current set up is Termi stubby/Mivv decat link pipe/BR Baffle.

Sound is loud, but fine for me, and I don't feel like the bike is down on power, as it feels better than with the cat. I can't say for sure as it has never been on the dyno.

As for you, I agree.... In hindsight, like Multi Rider, and also I suspect Finn, I would never have gone for the set up I have. I would either have gone for the full Termi (but cut down...this has been done many times before) or the QD system that others have (twin end cans 'stacked' a little like the original end can) OR the LV link pipe either with the standard end can or the carbon LV end can (Like Finn has)....

I hope that clears it up a little...

  3. Oh, almost forgot....yes, it looks like there IS a baffle in the link pipe, but in the LV end can there is also a baffle at the exhaust end (removable), and a 'plate' with holes in it (which apparently reduces power significantly..see link from Andy to Ducati.ms, above).

But yes, if I were you, and if I were starting again now, and not as I did in 2010, then I'd just go for the LV link pipe....sorted. ;-)

  4. I run the MiVV decat pipe and Termi stubby. I had te BR baffle in but removed it on Chris's advice. He mapped my bike on Saturday.
Yes it's bloody loud but I like loud!
If I had my time again, and the money I'd buy a QD system, they are gorgeous. I'm already saving for one LOL.

  5. Have no fear....removing the cat box improved my fuel consumption dramatically....check out my Fuelly | Share and Compare Your MPG page and the low down roughness was gone....or at least much improved!

Fitting is simple...there was a post, either on the ms site or on Andy's info site, on how to remove an exhaust....step by step.

The only issue with removal of the cat box is the stupid exhaust valve....but there is a cure for that too! Best thing I did was to get rid of the cat....

  6. Beware her Majesty wants a cut.....on a £110 order for fat ducs....she took £27. That's almost 1/3.

  7. Does the spark end can have some sort of noise abatement? Ie a baffle or wadding or muffler etc etc? If yes....that famous buying signal....what is the price?

  8. The issue with the BR baffle is....it steels power....it has to as the number and area of little holes do not add up the diameter of the exhaust pipe! Stealing power also steals fuel consumption....they all do...ie all baffles steal power, that is why racing cars and bikes have free flow exhausts...ie no baffles....

My issue with the BR baffle is not the loss of power, but rather the lack of silencing. It hardly makes a difference to the noise! Waste of space and money! LV have a better system!

  9. That was my point....all baffles steal power, but (in Chris' opinion) does the BR Baffle 'steal' more power than it should? Probably not....or maybe? I have no idea really, but the 'seat of the pants' dyno says "no". and, again according to the 'ears' sound meter, I think (?) that the BR Baffle does dampen the sound compared to straight through....I also find that fuel consumption with my setup is better than stock, and so is power/feel. I'm not saying it can't be better though....

When you say "LV has a better system", do you have it? I'm interested, as I may decide to change from my current setup, as the LV one definitely looks 'cleaner'.

  10. No idea, sorry Pete.... What is true, is that the link
pipe you've linked to has no baffling, so the first question is where is your baffling going to be? If the end cans have it, then that is great.... not sure how the Fatducs would help with the 1100 either...as I understand it, they essentially 'fool' the ECU into richening the fuel/air mixture at lower revs to help eliminate the low rev snatchiness....it fools the lambda sensor....

Sorry I can't be of more help.

  11. Oh, and would it improve the sound? Probably, if there is baffling in the cat. MOT? Depends where you take it....technically, yes, you'd have to replace the cat, but if it is a dealer/testing station you know, then see what they say. Most likely they will test it 'as is' because a) they know you, and b) they know that you will go home, replace the cat, pass the test, go home and take the cat off! So no point really... ;-)

  12. Yes, can't fault the QD and never heard a bad word from anyone else either. Price I guess could be the stumbling block, I managed to sort out a deal for a bulk purchase so that helped soften the blow! Can't remember exactly but was either £1200 or £1250 inc. VAT and delivery - I know someone who has the QD and has had the CJS custom re-map - 159 bhp at the back wheel! And the sound is just awesome - can't recommend them highly enough - fully homologated and fit with standard panniers

  13. That be me then! :upyeah:

+1 on the QD exhausts, not the cheapest, but great quality, sound and looks

Ive seen so many people on here messing around with different systems, db killers etc, and still not been 100% happy, and spending plenty of money and time in doing so

I fitted the QD, and have been happy from day one

Only other system i think matches up imho is the Full Termi dp system, again not the cheapest.. But you gets what you pay for...

I just prefered the looks of the QD

  14. Boomer/Bob..... Does the QD system replace the full pipe work from the original exhaust, or do you retain the original headers?

  15. You retain the original headers, but replacing the cat with a link pipe, twin silencers with removable db killers, and a dummy exhaust valve to keep the exvl warning at bay

  16. Aha, that's what I thought (from looking at it, along with the description) ....it said it was a 'half system'. In essence then, it is exactly the same as the Leo Vince setup (decat link pipe and end can), or the Mivv setup.... Thanks.

    David

  17. It also comes with 2 small cat converters but I was never able to fit them, there was a problem fitting the connector to the frame if you inserted the cats....noise without the db killers is too much but as I stated earlier with the db killers inserted it is legal (stamped) but still sounds amazing

  18. That's the same one that t965m found.... It's cheaper in the UK, once you add import duty and VAT.... But thanks anyway Bugs, maybe the other place you saw is better.
