TBH, Lewis is ‘just’ the driver and probably has little influence on the corporate Mercedes protests. Looks to me like F1 was haemorrhaging viewers and the new owners needed to address this. Two teams in it this year and the rules applied inconsistently to both resulting in a championship tie before the last race (which was a farce irrespective of who you wanted to win). All exacerbated by someone deciding what driver to team and team to FIA comms are shown on screen. Great TV to see Toto smash his headset or Christian’s head turn purple, or introduce a new track like Saudi that turns it into a demolition derby but not really the pinnacle of 4 wheel racing anymore. Can’t blame Mercedes for protesting to the FIA, they and others have spent millions developing a car, so reasonable to want to know what rules will be applied to which race. Might watch some films instead of F1 next year, Got Rollerball, The Running Man and Hunger Games on the list so far.....
Like the football analogy, but in this case Man U would have to have been 4-1 down against Arsenal, only for the ref to suddenly decide in extra time that next goal wins it, and then award Man U a penalty because a Chelsea supporter ran on the pitch and stopped the game whilst the stewards caught him. Can’t remember that happening, even under Fergie! Glad to see a new champ but not done the sport much good IMHO.
I think my life's pretty good actually. There's one or two on here that know me, ask them... Bit of a work/life imbalance going on at the moment but that'll soon be sorted Looking forward to a nice summer... You come across as a very bitter person. You seem to struggle with yourself a bit Anyhow, back on point. I still think Hamilton's a twat! PS What's a gringey cammon?
But you didn't watch it all. You were too busy watching your team getting another twatting (not much better for me btw, I'm a Mighty Leeds fan). The last 10 minutes of yesterday's F1 were possibly the most intriguing F1 race I've ever seen.
Max deserved his win, but I dont think Lewis deserved to lose it like that. I know you cant have a draw, but its probably a fairer description of the season than what happened. That was not good for F1.
Although I knew the result of the race I did watch the recording I made IN FULL! So an official protest lodged on the content and insinuations in your post.....
Chris it’s not my style to fall out with people I don’t even really know on the Internet, although some do make that a bit of a challenge sometimes! This issue of people getting precious over spoilers online is a bit of a bug bear of mine, you have your POV but I don’t agree with it, that’s all it is. I genuinely would expect a title called Hamilton to include spoilers about a final race that he’s just competed in without having to have an unnecessary “Spoilers” in front of the title. I’ve used the Internet long enough now to know that if you’re reading a thread entitled Star Wars, it’s probably gonna tell you what happened in the films at some point and I’m certain that most people are the same whether or not they are new to the particular thread. Dropping a major plot spoiler into an unrelated or unnamed thread is a different matter altogether but that’s not what we’re talking about here. Anyway I don’t have anything else to add to that so all the best to you Chris
How did Max deserve that win? It was literally handed to him by two safety cars & a never before seen last minute change of rules. Whatever anyone thinks of Hamilton he bossed that race from start to finish and the result was completely out of his hands. Of all the races Max has deserved to win, that certainly wasn’t one of them!
With regards to any spoilers, as others have said it's REALLY REALLY simple, just stay off social media, don't look at the news, watch the news etc. Following this means you won't mistakenly look at a thread about something else and someone mistakenly has dropped the result, just avoid at all costs. I'll watch every MotoGP race live if at all possible, much to the dismay of Mrs Freak as she'd rather do something on Sunday afternoon. If I have to miss the races I'll record them and disconnect from the world until I can get to watch the race upon my return, that could mean sitting in front of the TV late at night.
I meant the championship Symon. The race win was errr, irregular. But I dont want to sound like sour grapes and all that.
I respect everyone's replies today, but you're missing my point, i'm personally fine with anyone putting the results up anywhere, because as said, I should have been more cautious. What i'm getting at is, what is the hardship of including the word in a title just in case ? I read of at least one unhappy person on this thread, and there have been countless others on similar (non-spoilered!) threads and because i'm all for happy campers on this Forum wherever possible then I can't see why it's such an issue, it might be a bit belt-and-braces but it really is nothing. Thanks Symon, I wish you well also.
Yep, most podiums, most wins, most poles and of course most points. Oh, and over the season led for most laps. It’s only when Mercedes turned the engine up to 11 things began to turn. To get interesting tbf. Too little too late. You could see yesterday when LH tried to fight back (no DRS) with shagged tyres his car was quicker. Another 100 meters on that second straight and he’d have won.
Coulthard said something interesting on the news this morning. He basically said that you have to remember F1 is not a pure sport. Human endeavour is just a part of the sport and as a result there are huge complexities to the rules and the conduct of a race. It’s that, that needs to be hardcoded so that we do get back to everyone knowing what the rules are, when they are applied and ultimately you have a better form of start to finish racing. Then you eliminate these cosy little chats between race directors and teams where decisions are made and then changed seemingly at will. What Race Director Masi did yesterday was unethical and wrong and by his own admission he did it to provide a race finish. So a race that Hamilton had bossed throughout was decided by a guy sitting in a booth who wanted an exciting finish to the event. Overturning the result now would just lead to ridicule so it is what it is but Mercedes can feel extremely aggrieved by it, as most fans of the sport that I know do and don’t for a minute think that Horner wouldn’t have done exactly the same thing
Apart from the 2 second+ gap when he cut the corner and didn't drop back, or did I miss something?? If that was MotoGP he would have had to drop one place. And before anyone jumps in there was a gap, wider than the car obviously for Max or anyone to slot in, Max knew he would have to move or they would collide.... but that is racing, leave any gap you dive in... I did it enough times in my few years club racing.
