Evening all. I've bought the Ducati electric fuel filler cap to fit on my Multistrada V4S. I'd like to fit it myself, as I'm told this particular piece of kit doesn't need dealer activation. Has anyone done this to their V4? I think that the connector for the filler cap is on the left side, possibly under the side panels, and I'm hoping someone might be able to shed a bit of light on the procedure for getting at the little bugger. Once fitted, I'm told by the dealer that its a case of turning it off and then on again, and that the bike should then recognise the cap as being installed. Does this sound right, or not...? Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give!
I fitted one to my Multi 1200. There’s no smoke and mirrors, it’s strait forward. You fit it, connect it and off you go. It’ll be the same with the V4 because as I understand it the cap is the very same. When you pull up at a gas station, turn off the bike give it a second and the gas cap lock will release so you can open it, simples. Go ahead, fit it, as long as you connect it to the power source that’s laid in for it, it will work. The only thing to fear is fear itself. As with so many things in life.
I fitted on on my 1200 and looking at the spare parts diagram for the V4 it looks easier as the cap fits inside a small cover which is then fitted on to the main tank cover. On the 1200 it has to fit into the main tank cover which involved removing all the side panels. Getting a good seal between the tank and cap can be tricky because of the vent pipe and electrical cable.
Thanks, both. Grateful to you. Steve, do you know if there's an accessory fitting guide/manual for the V4 fitment of the electric filler cap that can be downloaded? I suspect that - unless I know a friendly dealer - the answer is no, but fingers crossed! Thanks in advance.
I’ve ordered a keyless cap for my PP, which the dealer will be fitting, but am tempted to go for the Rizoma alternative instead, as some keyless systems can be temperamental.
I've had keyless filler caps fitted to my 4 Multistradas - 70k miles over 10 years - never once had a problem
I'm not allowed mine yet.... it's under the tree! But I saw a post on facebook that shows where the cable to connect the cap up to is. Hopefully this'll help someone

Update: you can see the place to plug the cap into with just the lhs black in fill panel and the fuel cap cover taken off (on the fifth pic). I got completely thrown by the fact that it has a cap in it, so thought it was in use and ignored it until my wife had a "propper" look!
Quick update. I finally got round to fitting the filler cap today. Very straightforward, and the pictures above were a real boon. As has already been said, just need to remove the centre tank cover (with the ‘phone pocket) and the l/h side plastic infill panel. The female connector was really easy to find (and has a small plastic plug installed to keep the crap out). Probably took about an hour, all in (with a decent amount of that being me cursing having managed to scrape the infill panel on reinstalling - idiot). Bike recognised the filler cap straight away. Happy days! The accessory installation guide for the MTS1200 (on this forum) gives the torque values, if needed.
Nice that it shows a message when it’s open. I presume the previous 1260 fuel Cap doesn’t work on the V4?
I’m afraid I don’t know. I just bought one for the V4S. It does look very similar to the one sold for the 1200 and 1260, but I’m no expert.
