My brother's e-touring bike has 2 batteries. I'd consider an e-MTB, happy with an analogue roadie for the foreseeable.
I'm not against the idea of an ebike. Quite a few i know run them, I've not dropped the flag on one yet though. I still enjoy the analogue but i know the time a will come when I'll need one to ride the mtb stuff i do now. It does have some kind of perverse satisfaction battling your way up an mtb climb though. At the moment, I'm totally happy analogue but the time will come. What I do seem to learn is you get what you pay for.... A mate of mine runs a cube hard tail ebike, cube are not on my list, it's been an unreliable heap as his cube, he's had battery and motor trouble, been sent back to supplier/manufacturer twice. Ok now but not a good advert. At the minute, during the summer I'm doing up to 50 tough mile mtb days, hard but enjoyable. While I've still got that in me, I'll not be electric, when it's getting too much, I'll drop the flag.
it's the future.. existing petrol stations will probably stock them first - a "DIN" type battery you simply swap over.
I get this on and off road....Staring in horror at some bloody cliff, thinking 'no fucking way' then jumping about like Rocky Balboa when you do somehow make it...
i used to do that mate, but be hanging out my ass by the top, now its almost the hill isnt there and carry on.
And that is why I ride a singlespeed - they really really put the challenge back in. I found after a few years on geared bikes that there pretty much wasn't anywhere I couldn't climb if I really put my mind to it and the challenge is the fun bit for me. Now days half the time I don't have a clue if I'm going to get up some climbs but on a good day I will....
It does indeed but try and sense where your limit is, or possibly suffer the same as me. I always battled up hills and approx 10 years ago (so 56 years old) I stupidly changed my normal route one day which meant riding up over the North Downs twice. I refused to stand up on the pedals and ruined my right knee as a consequence. It's never been the same since but get away with it for most of the time. The bursitis that happened as a result stopped me putting my normal trousers on such was the swelling* and I stopped cycling for 3 years. Please take notice of this, hope your knees are stronger than mine. * whatever you do DO NOT be tempted to puncture to relieve as problem can be compounded due to introducing infection.
Sage words of advice there pal, words I won't ignore. I think the older i get, the more in touch with my limits I am.
I had bursitis in my right knee maybe 7 years ago - the hospital decided to relieve the pressure and it was without a shadow of a doubt one of the most painful things that has even happened in my life !! And yes it got infected even though the hospital had stabbed it which then led to a three day stay in hospital - it didn't affect my riding though - I was back on the bike a couple of weeks later...
Good to hear that it didn’t affect your riding, I’m sure you know by now that these bursa sacs all over our body are supposed to be there to help movement and joints function, almost like little oil cans! and so when enlarged it’s a tell-tale of something not happy. So it can be a symptom of what’s wrong but not the core of what is wrong. The bit that was “not happy” in my knee was never found, and I still might try and see if I can get some improvement one day but probably not worth it now.
Yeah given @cookster posted his eBike up thought I’d encompass the e riders and potential e bikers too.
That’d be mint for you Chris cruising through Richmond, you’ll be even more of a Chick magnet on that.
thread will definitely grow as a result. loads of people discussing which one to get (me included) even if they've yet to take the plunge.
Strangely or not thinking of getting an electric moped for popping out when I need stuff that a little too far to walk/cycle but not far enough to warm my van up for. I was eyeing these up for my lad as he was undecided whether to get an ice moped or a ePed. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/275071008112?hash=item400b827d70:g:wUUAAOSweDBhvz4i or https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384307698259?hash=item597a861a53:g:RxkAAOSwFWdhR1jb or really push the boat out and road register one of these bad boys https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115169013058?hash=item1ad09bad42:g:qmgAAOSwfUVhrgWp staying on brand here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165061606914?hash=item266e703e02:g:3X4AAOSwr05eNG7d
