999 Would Love Brembo P4 30/34 But....

  1. ....can't justify spending the cash :)

They look gorgeous in Titanium colour with red lettering, that and a set of Brembo supersport discs at the front:

Can't justify it as if I'm not mistaken, OEM 999 calipers also have 30/34 piston size.

  4. That and the fact that caliper bolt hole spacing on the 999 is 65mm and not 40mm like these P4 :)

  5. Could do this with used M50s and 848 forks.

  6. Yeah but I have the S version with the Ohlins forks which I want to keep. I know there are some places that do a fork conversion for the Ohlins forks but nor worth it IMHO.

  7. Buy a set of standards, get them cerakoted then do the red lettering yourself, way cheaper;)

  8. I swapped to 1098R forks and mono blocks years and years ago on my 749. Love the look. 8D020364-A446-4460-AE32-CAC1E5523003.jpeg

  9. Nice. Can you remember what you needed to make them fit? Stem? Lower Yoke? Axle?

  10. Mine was originally a Bip, so it needed a new steering stem machined as the Bip has a longer one than a Mono.
Lower yokes and it did need a new axle. I can’t remember from what as I had this done about 12 years ago now. My guess is it was a 999s/r axle.
Oh and a 848/1098 carbon front mudguard.

  11. I definitely had to have a new stem machined. The one that was fitted to the ohlins 999 lower yoke I bought was to short for my Bip.
The work was all done by Pro Twins and they had to have the new stem machined by a third party.
From memory they only realised when they went to fit it all and found the stem was too short. They then remembered coming across the issue before and told me that the tube on the Bip is longer than the Mono.

  12. The number of seats on the bike makes no difference regarding the stem. The difference comes from the adjustable headstock which is not present on a 749 Dark or 749 base. All 999's have it.

  13. How many 749s Bipostos are there? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one.

It was my understanding that all Bipostos were base? Hence why I said that Bipostos have a different length headstock to S & Rs and the 999 ohlins stem was too short.

  14. No, Jusutus is perfectly correct.

What I was trying to get across is the Bip has a different length headstock and steering tube to S & R models which is why I had to have a new one machined to be able to have an ohlins lower yoke fit.

I know this because I was shown the ohlins steering stem and it was a lot shorter than my Bip stem which had Sachs forks.

The confusion perhaps is because I stated that ‘Bips’ have a different length stem when I should have said base models and Darks. Although I’ve never heard of a base model S!

You were also correct to delete your post as it was misinformation. Having seen my bike in the Pro Twins workshop and seeing both my original Bip yoke and the Ohlins one together and seeing the differences I’d rather go with their extensive knowledge than yours.

I’m not trying to be difficult or anything, I was just replying to Bagazee as I’ve had experience first hand of trying to get this all to work.
