  1. Just chuck in a bid :)

I appreciate I'm probably in the minority but my love/lust for older bikes, the 916 and equivalents diminishes yoy as newer bikes become ever more sexy, capable and yes I confess, tech laden with TFT screens etc.

Is there a tipping age point when the kidz no longer lust after them, the number of interested parties drops and their prices begin to fall accordingly?

  2. they are a lovely bit of kit, though i do prefer the race version personally.

  3. I have a friend with a 916sp 1984, its for sale, its actually not for sale and never has been but if someone has the cash it might go, its sat under a cover for years.
He has owned it from new, I cant believe the price of these things back then £17k . He offered it me 10 years ago for around 10k, I thought he was taking the piss back then o_O
Apparently it doesn't have the carbon air box that they threw on some of these bikes in the build prosses if the parts bin allowed at the time, that's me out then for over 25k :astonished:

  4. Bonners- I think the opposite will happen. The 916 specials will eventually become like a Brough Superior; ultra collectable and hallowed.

This one is already at an eye-watering $US34K.

I personally put the 996R at the top of the heap for desired Tamburinis, followed very closely by a '97 SPS.

  5. Think you mean 1994 bud?

  6. Probably right, the high mileage unloved bikes may struggle to hold value but I suspect the R's and the minters will always have a market.

  8. Hi guys,
for me the Tamburini bikes are all beautiful and his iconic design with the 916 has yet to be surpassed in terms of pure elegance, I can still vividly remember pressing my nose up against Italia's showroom window on the way home from the pub back in 1994 and promising that it would be mine one day and yes it was a Waynes world moment!
My dream came true a couple of years later with a 748SP and I have been a big fan of the homologation specials ever since, I do believe they will always have a desirability factor, especially considering the small numbers manufactured and that they have stood the test of time in terms of design but then I'm probably biased!
There is no denying that the newer bikes are more capable, easier and more pleasant to ride but I don't believe they will have the lasting impact of these bikes, I know it's been said before but Tamburini literally changed the face of motorcycling forever!

  9. With the passage of time behind us, it is difficult to get across the impact of the 916 when it arrived. It made all bikes redundant in terms of style, elegance and performance. It is almost The Beatles of motorcycles. Or The Stones if thats your preference. The 916 transcended all things, non motorcyclists appreciated it. It was and still is a beauty. Yes, more modern bikes are fantastic, techno laden things but for pure analogue enjoyment my 916 is still superb. 20 odd years on.

My preference is the 955spA and then the 996R. But it is all moot. Im happy with my Bip.
