Ducati 1098 (2008) Corse Edition Or Scam?

  1. My 2009 1198S had a bronze frame, and i would run a mile from that Corse lookalike.
     
  2. I though documentation would help but its just confusing it even more... I cant seem to decode the VIN either...

  6. It's not the only one someone has done this too, there is at least one in the UK that's been done up the same. They did a better job on the front stickers though.

     
  7. There are all kinds of reasons why this bike might be so non-standard and none of them are good. Why not keep looking for a kosher example - you will find one if you are patient.

  9. Somewhat harsh isn't it? One of the previous owners might have liked the paint scheme and had it done!

    I don't mind mind if people keep their bikes original, or customise them -each to their own. I do find the obsessive attitude from some people that everything must be exactly original or the bike is some how worthless/ tainted really odd.

  10. Hi Jez, this particular bike looks very moody indeed as others on here have said and the thread starter was inviting opinions so I expressed one. I have bought several old Ducatis and in my experience, the more original the bike, the less likely one is to make an expensive mistake. By the way, I agree with you....I don't mind if people customise their bikes or not ;).

  11. Fair enough.

    I'm curious though, would upgraded clutch, brakes or suspension put you off a purchase? Personally upgraded bikes are more appealing to me -so long as the seller isn't asking for crazy money for his/her choices/ changes.

Speaking purely for myself and not necessarily telling other people what they should do or think, it would put me off because I would want the bike to be as original as possible so that I could add my own upgrades. My 1098s is 14 years old and on a bike of that age, it's so easy to make a very expensive mistake so I was careful to scrutinise it as much as possible. It was a one owner bike which had lived in Jersey so low mileage and not thrashed as far as I could tell. I only added a full Termi 70mm system because I felt that it would be rude not to :p
     
  13. T' would be hard to thrash a 1098s on Jersey where the speed limit is 40mph methinks!

  14. Which is why most residents with something fast, thrashed it in France.
     
  15. That bike has been disfigured. It looks horrible. Steer well clear.
