1199 Map Sensor, Again.

  1. Back in October i parked my perfectly running 1199 up for the winter, i did the usual changed the oil\filter coolant flush and changed the clutch slave cylinder and taking advantage of the lovely warmish weather we are having decided to take her out for a shot, low and behold, engine warning light i threw it in the back of my van and nipped it up to my local garage, map sensor gone the other went last year.
    Anyone know why a sensor would fail when the bike isn't being used and stored in a nice warm environment.
     
  2. I have no idea why they do that but it did get to the stage where we were recommending changing the pair as they were never far apart in failing and it saved doubling up on the labour charge. It didn't affect all bikes just a few, maybe Nelly could answer this better as he is an ultimate spanner jockey?

  3. Is the clutch slave cylinder a particular weak point on the 1199? I’ve just serviced mine after a long lay up and hadn’t considered this item
     
  4. i read somewhere that the early Panis where weak or maybe i dreamt it, i changed it because its a lovely smooth action a 20 minute job well worth it.
    Orberon tried and tested.

  5. Jonny is right, always best to change both at the same time, even if only one fails. A real PITA job, especially on a Diavel. Andy

  6. there was a Diavel and a Multi in the workshop waiting for map sensors. ?
     
  7. A while ago now but both the ‘12 Diavel and my ‘12 Multistrada required MAPS changing. As Jonny said, affected some and not others. I now carry a spare when touring in Europe just in case. Andy

  9. Last summer had a slight misfire then got the engine light on my 1299. Dealer picked it up and changed both the sensors, even though only one was faulty.

  10. the Ducati part no on the sensor for the 1199 is 5524571A will that number be the same on a bosch part ? or will for eg europarts be able to match the bosch part to the oem number.

  11. The only reason I can quote the Bosch part number is because it's on the MAP sensor that I replaced. If you're near a dealer that has one in stock you could get the Bosch number from it perhaps.

  12. For the 1199 the part number is 55241571A

    This is the info on the sensor. Should be easy to locate another cheaper source as it is used by other manufacturers.

  14. Also same part on 1299, 959, 899, Multi etc.
    I seem to recall the same part is fitted to a Fiat? Might be wrong.

  17. I have just been told the Bosch map sensor on the 147 Alfa fits the Ducati 1199, i think ill just pay the Ducati price i can see myself ending up with a bucket full of map sensors..lol, :joy::joy:

  18. I have been looking at these posts regarding using alternatives to the "Ducati" part, I would have no qualms about using them, like all manufacturers, Ducati buy proprietary off the shelf parts wherever possible then put DAT on them (Ducati added tax!)

  19. It’s a £20 part at the end of the day.
    I have read so much about the MAP in the last few days some makers guarantee 100 000 miles in cars, Bosch 5 years but in a Ducati a misfire could cause failure some say.
    Just ordered 2 spare off eBay £40 thanks to a member on here
