Buying A New Bike

  1. Hi all.

So said goodbye to my beloved MTS1200 today, gone to a new home also on the forum.

I just wanted a bit of an idea on what is normal practice payments wise when buying a new bike at a main dealer?

    TIA

  2. 95% of bikes bought are now on PCP if that’s what you mean;)

  3. I am a cash buyer, so was wondering what is a normal deposit, then when do other sims have to be paid, assuming order now for early March delivery.

  4. I'm buying my V2s brand new from Ducati Coventry cash (or as close as cash you can get today). Once we'd agreed the spec & price I put down £1,000 deposit. I'll pay the balance by bank transfer about a week before I collect it.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  5. Ducati Manchester take £100 (refundable) deposit then the balance just before delivery/collection :)

  6. I put £500 down on each of my new bikes. Once they’re ready for collection, I’ll just do a bank transfer into the dealers account.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  7. 1: pull down pants
    2: bend over
    3: insist on no lube

  9. Put your deposit on credit card and get section 75 protection on the whole purchase.

  10. Go in there two or three times kicking the tyres and chewing over the fat then buy the thing outright with a deal once you've bored the salesman to death.

  11. Dealers don’t want much deposit these days, they can sell the bike 10 times over so not bothered if you cancel at the last minute. The old days of the large dealers having loads of stock are long gone..

  12. If your trying for a bit of a deal then try to haggle/negotiate without mentioning how your planning on paying for it then once a price is agreed say then that you want to pay in full.
They might offer a better deal if they think your going to buy it on PCP as they’ll be factoring in their kick back for selling the finance?

  13. Deposit on credit card and then just pay the balance with a debit card when you collect (as long as you’ve transferred the balance to you current account in advance).

My wife bought her car like this and was horrified that it was possible, she hid her debit card for 5 days before we collected the car!

  14. I have done £500 deposit on credit card, they have said the rest I can pay by credit/ debit card, or bank transfer or part cash etc. Already have credit card protection on the transaction by paying the deposit on cc.

  15. Are you sure they’ll let you pay with a credit card? Most dealers won’t, on a new bike, as the fees are too high. It may be a different case with used bikes though, as the margins are much higher.

  16. As others have said, you may get a better price on pcp, I do this, get the contributions then pay the off the finance after the first payment. As long as the contribution and dealer discount are greater then the small interest charge, you can save a lot. Did this with my car and saved over 5k over a cash purchase.

  17. I’ve definitely paid a deposit on a credit card for a bike. A few years ago I paid the balance due on my wife’s new car with a credit card too.

  18. Defo can pay the balance anyway I choose.

  19. Back in the olden days before high credit card fees? :p

That’s good. My dealer said there’s no way they could take £29k on a credit card, as the fees would take a huge chunk of the profit from the deal.

  20. Did the dealer state you can pay all of the balance by CC with no extra charges your end?
