I've got a couple of European bike tours lined up for the summer and I need to get some holiday insurance in place - particularly for medical cover. Before the pandemic, my go to holiday insurance was an annual, motorcycle policy from Holiday Safe but it appears they no longer offer motorcycle specific policies and their standard policies only cover riding motorcycle up to 125cc. I've had a search for motorcycle specific policies and Navigator Travel Insurance (Gold) looks OK but I've yet get a proper quote, i.e. complete medical screening. I found another company but they had an age limit of 65 which both my partner and I will be this year. Any recommendations for holiday insurance which covers riding a motorcycle would be much appreciated.
I only have credit cards without any fees and therefore no extras like travel insurance. If the cover is good and the fees not too much, it might be a good option. Anyone have a recommendation?
I have used Holiday Safe in the past for bike specific trips but my "holiday insurance" that covers medical etc is with Columbus Direct, who are very reasonable My current bike policies thru BeMoto cover the bikes on European trips
Hello. I have used the people in this link previously, and all seemed OK. I have also used Carole Nash in the past, but they became very expensive after they were taken over. Good luck. Tom. PS. I also have the BeMoto benefits - I think! https://www.bikerstravelinsurance.co.uk/ .
I use LV having checked with them that they covered bikes over 125cc. (I used to use the Post Office but they changed their terms) I’ve also looked at Navigator in the past, seem like good policies with a range of cover.
I used to use the Post Office for travel insurance too. Had a claim in 2019, on a bike trip but wound up in hospital with sepsis for 8 days. The French medics and health system were excellent, shame the same couldn't be said for the PO insurance that got handed over to a company who's sole aim it seemed to be was to avoid any contact, never reply to emails or phone calls and just plain try to avoid paying anything out to either me of the French system who were threatening to send in the bailiffs to retrieve costs. Never again will I buy insurance though them.
There’s a piece in this month’s Bike magazine about insurance for European trips (I’d have photographed it but I’ve literally just put it through my neighbours letter box) and it was saying that if you’re thinking of going make sure you have fully comprehensive insurance as it’s now much more difficult to get information on European vehicles/drivers/riders etc now we don’t share their insurance database after Brexit. And by having fully comprehensive insure it puts the onus on your insurance company to do the legwork to get claims settled, should anything happen. In essence if you don’t then you stand no chance unless you’re prepared to chuck ‘000’s of pounds at lawyers fees.
