It looks like a quick release removeable 'swan neck' type towbar to me they don't have bolts but can wiggle free if not inserted properly.
agree, we are all thinking:- let's hope it only did the final flip at at the end and onto the, relatively soft grass landing (fat chance...)
who knows Simon, but the detached bit looks more like a letter "U" than an "L" to me, if you know what I mean.
All the Major vehicle manufacturers appear to have different designs of them. It's not a Land Rover one is all I can say.

This is a fellow Ducati 888 buddy. Tow hook failed and he managed to slow down enough before it flipped. He was on the way to a Ducati track Day. Thankfully it is almost ready for the road and track again.
With matching yellow pants and T.shirt, plus Elton John's 1970's platforms just to complete the picture.
