Hi guys, Long story as short as possible. Been a while since I have posted on ere but here goes. A while back 2020ish the bike started to run a little rough, rich on idle (popping and bangs) fuel consumption was poor. Eventually I had an EML show and turns out was a MAP sensor on the Horizontal head. Swapped out at a local’ish specialists. Went well for a few rides no issues, then the gear position sensor went. No biggy I replaced it no problems, didn’t have to re-register the gears either. I still would get the occasional cough and splutter at idle and thought fuel consumption was up. So I tried Melcodiag, No codes obviously as no EML so just thought I’d swap the verticals head MAP sensor for the horizontal (as it’s easier to mess with the horizontal MAP and this was the new one. So swapped it to the vertical so had the old potential bad MAP sensor on horizontal head). Well after that it’s running lovely but I still think fuel consumption is up. Or am I just remembering wrong. I would like to know what people get out of a tank, Roughly. I’m getting bout 150miles to a tank. It’s a 2014s model with Leo vince link pipe and baffle. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
2013 GT with Termi and up map. I'd have to be riding hard to get it down to 150 miles, assuming you mean until empty and not just when the fuel light comes on?
When you say, to a tank, do you mean until the gauge shows orange? If so, keep riding until it flashes red. You’ve still got 20-30 miles until totally empty. I ride relatively hard and regularly get 200 out of a tank. I am riding into the red regularly but from experience have found I still only need 18 litres, sometimes a little more, to brim the tank.
Basically I reset after a brimming and I have had as low as 130miles on a tank, that’s wen orange light comes on. At the minute I think I’m just below half a tank and got 80miles on the clock. So on for 160miles this tank. I would be happy with 180miles a tank to be honest.
Can you confirm the configuration is Leo Vince decat link pipe, O2 sensors still fitted and no ECU remap ? Andy
It’s is indeed Leo vince link pipe. O2 still attached, no remap. This has been my configuration since 2015. Issues started 2020. And standard end can with internal baffle.
Off top of my head, you’re not a million miles away(pardon pun) Each segment on dash fuel gauge is about 20miles. Say your orange flashes at 130 plus two more bars = 170 then 20-30 on red flashing Not so different to mine.
Odd why the consumption should increase after the replacement of a failed MAP sensor. I had a similar set up on my 1st generation 1200 and had a MAP sensor failure but after replacing both, I had a re-map and the O2 sensors disconnected so consumption comparisons are difficult. I wonder if your O2 sensors are reading a slightly lean burn and asking the ECU to richen the mixture. Wouldn’t take much for the increased consumption to show a drop in mpg. Andy
Could a leak/fault with the secondary air systems trigger the O2 sensors read to lean? My bike developed a minor leak on the injector seal, it skipped and burbled a bit on idle but was fine under throttle.
So after posting this I finally got through a tankish. Took this photo this morning at a petrol station. Are we saying this is about right? Or am I drinking fuel with this set up. The trip was reset after last fill up.
Is your fuel gauge accurate? have you tried old school maths to get a true mpg figure? Do some decent miles, starting with a full tank then refill at the end noting the miles covered. Easy then to work the mpg out
Just back from a 2021km(1200miles) tour, and fuel consumption was painfully bad. down to less than 10km/liter. ie 200km out of a tank The bike (2014) is fitted with SC Projects pipe, link pipe, and "Rapidbike" power commander, the headers are standard also had the dongle fitted to replace the exhaust valve. The bike runs very rough on part throttle, but OK when under acceleration Any ideas as to what is causing this excessive fuel consumption?
@Ian-SA - does it's burble and pop/bang on idle? I had problems with a leaking injector seal which had similar behaviour off acceleration.
At standstill, it will idle ok... when holding a constant speed..ie not accelerating...the fueling is flipping terrible.
