A JT Quick Release Sprocket Carrier arrived with us this week from WSCPerformance.co.uk and I decided I’d write a little review as having just fitted it, I thought it was a) very good and b) very reasonably priced. (makes you wonder why Ducati dont use a system like this as standard rather than the overly complicated sprockets they like so much) As you'll probably know, on the standard bike the cush drives are built into the sprocket itself and the Ducati carrier is then bolted to the sprocket. Changing or replacing the sprocket means removing the axel nut followed by the sprocket and carrier and then putting the whole assembly in a vice to undo the 6 nuts and bolts that go through the carrier and sprocket. The JT unit replicates the centre of the standard sprocket, holding the cush drives and attaching to the original carrier but where it varies from the standard setup is in the 6 six additional studs which the new sprocket slides on and fixes to. To remove the sprocket just undo the 6 stud nuts and the sprocket slides off, leaving the hub and carrier in place and with no need to undo the axel nut. Other advantages of the JT over the standard system are that you now have a wide range of sprocket sizes available to you as you're not restricted to needing the OEM style of sprocket. It should also represent a decent weight saving being as the JT carrier is aluminium versus the steel of the standard unit. The JT we fitted is very similar to the Renthal carrier in both design and function and actually the sprockets are interchangeable between both (as you can see with us having a Renthal sprocket fitted). The JT however represents a considerable cost saving, coming in at about half the price of the Renthal and I have to say the quality of machining and finish of the JT was excellent. Overall, highly recommended. I even used the locknuts included in the kit rather than having to replace them with something decent like you have to with most fastners that come with aftermarket parts - and yes i did tighten them up when the bike was off the paddock stand.
I have had a JT on my 1098 for a few years now the JT sprocket has lasted and barely looks worn Happy to know that Renthal sprockets do fit the carrier as they are easier to source for me
Actually another good point I forgot to mention - If you look at the JT part number it’s listed as fitting the 1199, 1299 etc etc but no mention of the V2. On the Ducati OEM parts catalogue the sprocket carrier for the 1299 is the same part number as the V2 so I took a punt on it fitting and it did but useful to note for anyone looking for the V2 and I imagine V2 Streetfighter
Which component do you think the part numbers differ on? The 'rear sprocket flange' is the same part number accross the 1199 / 1299 and V2 (16016841AA) and its that which defines the offset from the hub, the sprocket or replacement carrier just mates with that. There is a spacer between the OEM flange and the hub but they carry the same part number accross all three too. The sprocket part numbers differ but they're a different number of teeth - the offset between the centre portion of the sprocket and the teeth could be different but I'd be surprised. I'll measure up again next time I've got the bike out. I'm interested to know if I'm wrong of course, just not sure where you think the error could be unless its in the sprocket. 1299 https://www.bike-parts-ducati.com/d...-Panigale-ABS/REAR-WHEEL-SPINDLE/272/47/0/272 V2 https://www.bike-parts-ducati.com/d..._V2/PANIGALE-V2/REAR-WHEEL-PIN/482/2324/0/482
It’s the carrier which is different as both versions / part numbers have a different offset. I think @JamieW had this problem on his V2? I bought my JT carrier from Russ at Ducati Mondo and he couldn’t explain which one I needed between the two.
Right yes I see what you mean now - which bike are you using it on? Interested to hear what JamieW knows. I was talking to one of the other TriOptions guys who ran this JT part number on a V2 all last year he said.
No worries… mine’s a 959 with a 1299 swing arm conversion. I’ll see if I can dig up the part number I used.
Yes, had an issue with this with the Renthal carrier. Renthal had listed the wrong part number so it was half an inch off compared to OEM. I made a thread on it which might help. Not sure on the JT carrier part numbers, but for Renthal it's a D183 for the V2 which is the same as 1199/1299/V4 so would assume it'd be the same for JT. Still waiting for my R&D Consultation fees considering Renthal said they had test fitted the 182 on the V2 https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/renthal-sprocket-carrier.86010/
Nice one cheers @JamieW , I read through your thread which was useful - interesting about the offset being a touch off even with the right part until you changed the front sprocket. So your issue was Renthal listing the wrong part, once you got the correct item which was the same as the 1199 / 1299 you were sorted. With my JT being listed for the 1199 / 1299 I should be fine. I will double check with a steel rule just in case and see if the JT is a fraction off like the renthal. I've also have a renthal front sprocket which i wasnt going to fit yet but sounds like i might need to.
That’s it, Simon. And I think the JT carriers mimic the Renthal ones. Sure you’ll sort it as Jamie made it clear what to look out for.
Fitted one if these to my Multistrada 1260 late last year. Agree on the quality and the ease of change going forward. Hopefully durable too.
Just measured up and the JT looks to be exactly as the Renthal once Jamie got the right part from Renthal, the sprocket sits 1.5mm closer in to the swingarm than standard but changing the front sprocket to a Renthal also will sort that.
Also think the carrier has some free play in it if you give it a wiggle. Possibly to sort of self align. Mine did anyway . Just to give you some peace of mind, I did over 10 trackdays with it before selling the bike and both sprockets and chain were still in good condition.
Cheers mate. So back to the original point, i thought the JT carrier was pretty good value for money and i'm pleased with it If anyone wants one, give WSC Performance a shout
I’ve just fitted one of these to my V4 and agree with everything said. Got front and rear sprockets (+2 on the rear), Tsubaki chain and the carrier for about £260 from BC express.
Somebody has already mentioned them but Ducati mondo supply JT kit at very reasonable prices or they were when I bought mine
Can speak for the quality of the JT carriers. I've had one on the Multi for over 30k now. Biketorqueracing also carry compatible AFAM sprockets.
