V4 Tennis Elbow

  1. I’m worrying that the reemergence of tennis elbow in my left arm is a result of the heavy clutch on my V4S, now it maybe a coincidence and not be related but I vaguely many years ago people modifying clutch systems.

    Previously when I have had it tennis elbow has only been in my right arm and probably caused by playing squash.

    It may not be the bike and I hope it isn’t, but has anyone got any tips on lightening the clutch lever.
     
  2. Not had this on the V4 yet but did find the 1260 Clutch a bit heavy, ended up fitting a larger diameter slave cylinder (Ducabike) and that did make difference - a bit lighter but definitely smoother and easier to use.

    There are such slave units out there for the V4 Multi but so far have not swapped mine out

    And I think (!) it is the same slave unit as used on Panigale V4 engines as well
     
  3. In my case it’s not the weight of the clutch that is the issue but the reach. It’s a long way to the lever even in the minimum setting.

  5. I have a short clutch lever and wondered if it’s contributing to my tennis elbow!

    However, I guess an alternative clutch slave cylinder (Oberon?) might help?

  10. They’re the same as the 1260, so there are a lot of other options available.
     
  11. I recommend seeing an osteopath, just in case it's not entirely elbow related. I had manipulation of my wrist to help with a similar long-term elbow issue.
     
  12. I’ve had it before, but in dominant hand side previously, I’m confident it’s the same, just not the cause, sadly most likely the Ducati
     
  13. There must be a reason Evotech and most other companies don't list V4 levers currently. I would prefer to wait for something tthat important.
     
  14. I fitted an Oberon to a Monster 1200R, much lighter pull on the lever.

  15. Maybe use the up and down quick shift a bit more , it does make things better , must admit not noticed the stiff clutch tho . I thought it was lite .

  16. The Ducati part numbers for the OEM levers for the 1260 and the V4 are identical, according to my dealer.
     
  17. Before spending any money, try the following before your next ride: -
    - Sit with your gear on as normal on the bike, at the very least have your gloves on.
    - Open the span of the lever away from the bar slightly, a couple of clicks should do. (If it’s at the minimum right now)
    - Instead of using your full hand, use index and second finger to pull the clutch whilst still gripping the bar with third and fourth finger.
    - with the engine running and holding the brake on, carefully pull the clutch lever back until it touches the knuckles of your fingers that remain on the bar and check whether you’ve got enough clutch to get into first.
    - If not, adjust span until you do.
    - Ideal biting point is just as you release pressure on the lever and it lifts off your gloved fingers on the bar.
    - you’ll notice that you’re only really moving the lever 10-15mm of travel to get full disengagement / engagement of the clutch.
    - take some time and practice using just two fingers to pull the clutch and not pull it all the way to the bar, just until it meets your other fingers.

    Try it, you’ll find the really tiring and difficult bit is pulling the lever all the way to the bar and it’s just not necessary. “Dipping” the clutch as I’ve described takes about a tenth of the effort (seriously, although I’ve never really measured it as such) and doesn’t cause any accelerated wear assuming you’ve set it up correctly and there’s no feeling of drag with the clutch in.

    Works a treat, I’ve been doing that for years.

  18. Not sure if this is relevant but I was having issues with pain in my shoulder joint (result of an old bike crash). I fitted the Ducati bar risers and it improved straight away.
     
  19. actually having initially been told that they were the same, have just been given my evotech levers back that were on 1200R and 1260PP and told by dealer that they don't fit the V4PP :confused:
     
  20. I have had tennis elbow, it lasted nearly 12-months, pulling the clutch on any of my bikes didn't hurt at all, Multi, etc ... Are you sure its tennis elbow? Hold a heavy hammer like you are going to strike a nail and cock your wrist up and down, that should hurt!!!
