Switzerland And The Plod.....

  1. Hi All,

Rather than fill my original thread about me going on the euro tour this June I thought I'd create another.

I am getting loads of people speaking about the Swiss police and how bad it is. I was last there in 2013 and didn't see any police tbh. Has it really got that bad where they target? It sounds like they are sitting on every corner of every Alp.

We are there for 3 days and want to enjoy the Alps and the scenery.

Starting to get a little concerned about it now.

  2. They were supposedly very keen on excessive noise, but as no-one really has had chance to go there for the last two years, no-one can know if that is still the same, been forgotten about or what. I would suggest if you have a de-cat, that you put the original back on for the tour mind.

I do have some Swiss friends, I will ask if they have any updates.

  3. Cheers, both my Multi and my brothers ZZR1400 are standard so should be ok on that front.

  4. I have emailed my buddy, its easier than trying to phone as he does literally get all over the globe with his work, he was most likely at the Qatar GP at the weekend. I will update when he gets back to me.

  5. lol - as I thought, he was in Qatar having been to the GP and is currently waiting to fly out. He is at most GP's as he is involved with many of the teams.

    His reply:
"Switzerland is not Austria! Only in the western part of Austria, Tirol, you will find crazy noise regulation.
They ban everything with 91dbA or higher. This would mean no Multistrada for sure!
Switzerland and south of Germany are easy. Switzerland has only draconian penalties for speeding! 80km/h on normal roads, 120 on motorways.
If you stay within 10km/h it would be affordable"

So noise not an issue, but speeding is!!

  6. Brill thanks, so only the speedo to keep an eye on! - On the motorways, I will use the cruise set at 120 :)

  8. Ahh I remember seeing that! - I've just re-watched it. Wow.

  9. I seem to remember it was around 4000 Swiss Francs (about ÂŁ3200) which had to be paid on the spot plus an instant ban from riding in Switzerland! Speed at your peril (well your wallet's at least).

  10. It’s a beautiful country but I honestly think the roads are overrated. I believe Austria to be better from a road POV and certainly from a police POV.

I’ve done Switzerland many times, you can be lucky, you can be unlucky. I’ve known many who have been unlucky and the penalty for being even slightly over is astronomical.
Those who go on about “don’t speed then etc” is all well and good. But imagine getting shafted for being 1,2,3mph over which isn’t exactly difficult and the plod jump out of bushes and hang around at the end of tunnels etc.

Proper nazi land. But otherwise very beautiful

  11. Just for balance. If you haven’t been before, and you’re mainly going for the sights. Do it, you’ll love it. Just be careful.

if you want good roads and scenery, I genuinely reckon on balance, Austria and Italy is better.

They’ll make a diplomat of me yet.

  13. "I was last there in 2013 and didn't see any police tbh".

That's because they take stealth to a new level. They invented the Gatso and had to change it to rear facing because of all the "unexplained" lady passengers in certain gentlemen's cars.

I lived there for five years and even got a speeding ticket on my bicycle (yes, they have readable reg numbers in Zurich).

One friend had a month of salary fine for speeding. Second strike is jail time.

Anything loud and fast is banned and don't even mention the "garbage police".

    Try northern Italy.

  14. I’d suggest that’s stationary noise test of some kind.
It’s only the Gold they’re sat on that’s Nazi.;)

For me avoid there are less draconian countries to ride in unless there’s something special you’d like to see other than the inside of a cop car.

  15. My Dutch mate got a 2000+ Euro fine in Swizerland. He maintained that most of the police there were kicked out of the Gestapo for crulity !

  16. 2019 I got a ÂŁ750 fine for being 3kmh over coming down a mountain pass.
The whole journey I was taking it easy, But at this point I had a local riding my arse and didnt have a speedo that showed KMH, only a phone doing the GPS speed. Regardless I was over.

It ruined the rest of the holiday for me tbh so I'll never go back and whilst it was very scenic, there were easily comparable places in northern Italy, areas around Lake Garda and the Dolomites were great!

By the sounds of some of these fines I think I got of lucky!

  17. /\ this is exactly what I was getting at.

3kmh! So basically don’t even think about checking out the scenery, because you might accidentally go 3kmh over the speed limit down a hill and get raped by the Nazi brigade.

    Piss takers

  18. This^^^ I didn’t see any traffic police last time I drove there but I still got 2 tickets for speeding taken by strategically hidden cameras.

  19. If you never breach speed limits and happy with that kind of pace, you will be fine.

If you are not, I suggest going Austria or Italy.

Italy has much better scenery, many more mountain passes, much better vino and magiare.

    Austria has fkk clubs.
