Switzerland And The Plod.....

Discussion in 'Touring' started by MrACD, Mar 7, 2022.

  1. A certain member of this forum will be arrested and jailed if he ever steps foot in Switzerland, for what was not really “that bad” speeding wise.

I think the OP is getting the picture :joy:

  2. He just needs to wrap himself in a blue/yellow flag, crawl to the border and tell Police that Putin forced him to speed

  3. Yep, Didn’t see anything coming down the mountain, Then there was a lone police office in the middle of the road stopping cars and telling them to pull into a car park behind some buildings all hidden away.
Camera must have been hidden behind a bush or something.
I'm sure the limits are also sparsely signed. Nowhere near as much as the UK, but I suppose that’s all part of the plan.

Considering I was driving through 13 counties on that trip, I spent hours reading about different laws in each country and refreshed my memory each morning before traveling if I was going to be crossing a border that day.
I knew the limits but was just unlucky for a moment.
Nothing to do with road safety and purely about money making, but you live and learn

I bet the operation that got me took over £100K in fines that day

  4. My Swiss mate reckons speeding fines to many Swiss are akin to fuel, or road tax to us brits.

  5. That's way out of order, £250 per kph. Total p take. I don't know what to do now about that part of the journey.

  6. Sit 10kmh under the limit whilst in country and admire the scenery. You might even spot the hidden cameras :D

  7. Rent a Bicicletta

  8. Run to the border. Ignore any fines that follow you home and never return.

Tried and tested. Works a treat.

  16. Someone I know, that is definitely not me at all, infact I might not even know them in anyway.. and it might have been on a privately hired road in Madagascar.. once got chased out of two countries in Europe in a row o_O

followed by a getaway run at 200mph down to the tunnel.

Was like something out of outrun (apparently). very naughty.

  17. The French plod molested my wallet en route to LeMans. I got a bit carried away and well and truly fisted on a toll road. They just wait for you at the next booth then take you to an atm and rinse you :joy:

Those who’ve run up to lemans when the 24 is on know full well, it’s like the cannonball run coming out of the Péage’s.

Was lucky to have kept the vehicle tbh. Was back when I was a bit of a Herbert. Saying that I got nicked a few years before in one of those W12 Audi luxo barges 5 up with so much luggage nobody could see each other in the cabin

  18. You should deffo read the rules around that. I won't be surprised if they have a right to impound a vehicle if you can't pay the fine on spot. Or even worse, they just confiscate your driver's license leaving you unable to ride in the middle of a mountain pass.

  19. No they escort you to ATMs or confiscate your bike/car. They know we won't pay!

  20. On the flip side, my Swiss drivers license (obligatory to hand over your UK license if you stay in Switz more than a year), came in very handy for those awkward roadside interviews with UK plod. I paid a few very modest fines, but never got any points and was invisible to cameras with my Swiss reg plate.
