Motogp, Round 1, Qatar *spoiler*

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Android853sp, Mar 4, 2022.

  1. Thought the race was indifferent, having said that it’s the first one so hopefully can only get better. MM can’t work out wats going on there let’s hope he gets back on it

  2. Being beaten by his teammate will do him in imho.

  3. I think it is more to do with the fact that he knows he can't fall off again. I hope he manages to overcome it.

  4. Will be interesting to see as the season unfolds if MM is fit enough to keep the pressure on others for a full race due to his injury’s.

  5. We had this discussion a year ago and look what happened, MM fans had to watch as his recovery failed to materialise.

In 2022 the challenge just got a lot harder for him as the next generation have gained more winning experience. Two new world champions, more race winners in 2021 and more races in 2022 than ever before.

He now has a team mate who finally has a bike he can ride and realistically win on.

    Times have changed a lot.

I wish him all the best, but the odds look worse for 2022 than last year.

  6. Front tyre performance was all that was the problem. You have to remember, Marquez loads the front big time and the "new" RCV213 is more front to back balanced which suits Pol who likes to use the rear brake. Now is when Marquez needs to show he can ride anything. Only time will tell if Honda will give him what he is used to or he has to adapt to what Pol and Taka seem to be able to ride. Andy

  7. This is a good point, just listen to Pol after the race explaining how Honda have given him a bike he can finally ride and win with compared to 2021.
HRC have had two years of relative misery and now decided to improve their chances by building a bike that works for more of their riders.

They have to, because every other team has improved so much for 2022.

  8. I thought it was an enjoyable race in GP to be honest. I’d rather have a weekend with it on than not and they can’t all be absolute classics.
Looks like Yamaha have not achieved much with the 2022 bike. Their top speed is still well down. The 2021 Ducati appears to be the weapon of choice too.
Davide Tardozzi threw all his toys out the pram when quizzed about the 2022 Factory bike not being accepted very well by the riders , and based on the issues from the first race looks like there’s no smoke without fire.
Congrats to the Beast. A great ride

  9. After a few seasons and an injury or two, riders work out they are not invincible. Meanwhile, the invincible youngsters come through...if that makes sense? MM now looks at the risk v reward formula much harder than he ever needed to before. Plus, just my own suspicion, whilst he may have gained fitness I am not convinced he has regained feel in that damaged arm. He always rode on the edge and was able to get away with it because he had an amazing feel for what the bike was doing... Is it gone with some nerve damage?
It is not healthy for the sport for one person to dominate though. The talent out there at the moment is incredible right across the board and that is a good thing.
Moving on to Fabio for this year, I am not sure how long his contract is with Yamaha, but that bike just looks slow compared to everything else on the the track. Yamaha have a lot of work to do.
Early days, not the best track, I will give a top tip on who will win the championship when we reach Circuit Ricardo Tormo o_O

  10. The Beast rescued Ducati from a massively disastrous and embarrassing first outing. Last years bike proving unequivocally to be better than the new bike, which is what the riders were saying. I’m sure they’ll bring it around but they’ve obviously got far more work to do than they were willing to accept.

I wouldn’t write Marquez off yet, if he doesn’t win this championship he’ll be second. Similarly he’ll bring his bike around to his liking and he’s bound to win more than a few races.

Yamaha on the other hand have an engine they can’t do anything with during the season which to my mind will piss off Quatararo and the vultures will be circling with enticing contracts very soon.

Everything will change when they get to circuits where handling is more important than top speed but nobody appears to have the combination of both.

  11. I enjoyed the race, it wasn't a classic and I'll hold my hands up and say I am a Rossi fan so for me personally my interest isn't what it used to be.

All the teams have moved on, but racing shows who's heading in the right direction.

Honda - a bike for the masses, exactly what they need after 2 years of practically nothing. Marquez is now looking for tows around, that to me shows he's not the rider he was, whether that's in his head or fitness, or a new bike I don't know. Could Pol have won, possibly, but Marquez I think played a safe game, get points, non of the main title threats were in front.

Ducati - Well the factory team were at sea, Millers bike lost it's GPS from what I have read so providing too much or too little power at different points on the track, Pecco, well that looks like frustration trying to pass Jorge. Pecco has also commented he's here to win races not test parts and suggests Pramac should be developing the bike.....
Bastiani, what a result though, on a fully developed bike with data from 2 races from Qatar at his disposal, Dovi ex crew chief, the stars aligned. Will the Gresini team get upgrades through the year though as the season develops though?

KTM - Binder, cracking result. I'm still not convinced they'll be at the sharp end throughout the season, where were the rest (OK 2 rookies)?

Suzuki - The bike is a rocket ship compared to previous seasons, and I seriously thought Mir would be on the podium, but more power usually means something else is affected, maybe they cooked the tyres?

Aprilia - Where was Maverick??? Testing always shows the Aprilia at the sharp end, but racing is a different story entirely, Aleix had a good race and I was hoping he'd catch Pol, maybe a few more laps?

Yamaha - Speed and power, there's not much else to say. I think once we get back to the normal tracks though I expect Yamaha will say they don't need it.

  13. Sorry 2, i thought EB came from the VR46 academy but seems he didnt.

  14. hahahahahaha this is the ONLY guy in the last 20 years to have not cracked under Rossi’s mind games and his fans death threats etc…. I’m not Marquez fan but it’s fairly safe to say you are massively underestimating his mental strength….

  15. He’s never been bested by his teammate. That’s far harder to deal with than a guy who’s at the end of his career and coasting it out. He was faster that VR and far more aggressive: nothing to fear.

Unless his switch comes back on and he removes any and all memories of last couple of years he will be top 5 at best.

  16. If hes consistently top 5 or so there's no reason why he cant win another title, Joan Mir managed it by not falling off as much as everyone else and hes already got a head start on a lot of peoples title favourite .
