The problem with the early 749/999 is that the later ones have some many upgrades, all the mags push to get a later one of each due to the much better spec. As someone who was looking for a 749/999 I wouldn't/didn't consider the earlier bikes unless they were about £1k cheaper. I ended up getting a 2004 749R. Nice 2005+ 999S seem to sell at 5-6k.
what upgrades do they have over early ones apart from deep sump and grey swing arm.? looks like I may have to drop it further if I want a sale but don't want to give it away. I truly think if anyone wants a 999s they would pay the price. Me personally I thinks it's worth what I'm asking due to the condition and low miles and service history ect and just because its an early model wouldn't rule it out from at least a look.
They made quality improvements, the engine got some proper extra BHP on both models, not just one or two bhp, the R swingarm and linkages... For 2005, Ducati's base 999 has been tuned to produce 140 bhp. That's a hefty 16 bhp more than last year's version--and even more powerful than the previous R model. The standard 999 now gets the R's uprated ignition pulse generator. New camshafts have more lift and duration than their predecessors. At the bottom end, a lighter crankshaft has revised oil passages. It spins above a deeper sump, which should prevent oil starvation under hard acceleration. For 2005, Ducati's base 999 has been tuned to produce 140 bhp. The new fairing nose is 10mm wider at each side, the old slits on either side of the top headlight are gone and the screen is slightly taller, echoing the mods made to the recently launched 999R. The 999 also gets a braced aluminum swingarm similar to the one used by Ducati's works racebikes and R models. Consisting of a cast pivot, extruded pieces and forged rear sections, it's more rigid and 500 grams lighter than the old version, contributing to an overall weight savings of a couple of kilos. So if you were now looking for a 999 which one would you go for? Or how much less would the price have to be on the older one for you to go for it?
Think you may find it wasn't an increase in much (if any) power, merely a change from rwbhp to crank bhp measure to conform with other manf claims
It was a whole range of engines not just a change in how it was measured, all the dyno reports show another 12bhp or more at the wheel too.
the 05 onwards s basically got a version of the early 999R motor. You might not belive it but there's loads of info around about it.
thnaks mate. I see what your saying but to be honest I still think I'd go for the best low mileage 999 I could get rather than just saying the 05 are the ones to get full stop. Mine has a custom map which I'd have to check to be sure but was getting 130 bhp and nicer power delivery and mine is the s spec with termis. Plus fsh, belts just done and updated starter cables so good fairly expensive stuff just done.
We can all argue the toss about what we think it's worth but unfortunately the proof of the pudding is in the eating: if you're not getting any interest then there aren't any buyers at that price. Sure you can wait until one comes along, but if you want to sell... Have you had any enquiries?
i can wait as not desperate and haven't seen a specific bike I want so am In no rush. No enqs at all apart from a best offer of 2k on eBay. Lol
This is the best time of the year for selling bikes at the best prices. It wont get any easier as the year goes on. Good luck anyway.
didnt sell but stuck it back on auction and was upto 3200 within several hours of being on so will see what happens with drunken bidding. but im starting to think im not really that bothered to sell it.
Well after a good start it stopped at 4k which wasn't my reserve Really thought would be bidded up at the end
This bike shows what people would pay for a 2005 one, if you look at the offers.... eBay UK Item Purchase History I take it this is your bike? eBay UK Item Purchase History If so the offers of 5.8k are very very good ones? Its got to be worth more than 4k, I think you're hitting the time of year where people who are are after a bike have one now, what about another classified listing with buy it now/submit best offer?
Hi the first one is nice and easily worth more than 5k in my mind but yes I know it's an 05 but its double the miles of mine. The 2nd one is the same bike on the link This is my bike. Ducati 999s 999 | eBay is there anything on the ad that I could improve upon
When I take photo's of any bike I try to take them at the same level as the highest part of the bike. In other words, not from above. I kneel down and take pictures like that. I just think it improves the look.
