1199 Panigale R: Dda An Option?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by ibgarrow, Mar 3, 2022.

  1. Is the DDA logger an option? Mine has no red plug, although the GPS module is present.
I’ve tha chance of a red plug from a Panigale V4-might these be the same?

  2. Works on all panigales with the gps module doesn’t it?

  3. My 2016 Panigale R came with a DDA unit made by PROSA for DMH, with part number: 38522121A . Tom.

  4. Shame. The V4R one advertised is a different part number to the Panigale R version. ☹️

  5. Pretty sure a 1299 dda will work correctly.

All other panigale dda should work with differing functionality, although there will an "unknown device" error on the dash.

  6. Thanks
Vendor has kindly offered me to “try it and see” so I’ll take him up on that generous offer.
I’d have thought that, if the DDA is simply a storage device, then all it does is capture the data transmitted via the installed socket. Presumably the software might be different in that it expects the data in a different configuration…

  7. Hello.
You could try asking PROSA in Italy about which DDA devices are compatible with your bike, they make them for DMH and have helped me in the past.
    The website is: http://www.prosa.com/ .
The contact email address is: [email protected] .
    Good luck.
    Tom.
PS. I understand that Prosa has been taken over by Danfoss, and the alternative email address for support is: [email protected] . I hope this is correct, and I'll try to check!

  8. Yes, in my limited understanding, each version for each bike has specific "channels" for that model. For the later bikes, they have more channels then the previous bikes.
For example, the 1299 version has channels for wheelie control and lean angle, which the 1199 version does not as the bike isn't equipped with those sensors.

So if you can't find your exact version, it's better to get a later version dda than a previous version.

  9. Hello.
"Marco" from Prosa replied to me from this email address: [email protected] , and confirmed the above website link: http://dda.prosa.com/ , for DDA support and downloads, I think you need to register to have access to software etc; it's free.
I've asked him about which device will work with the 2015-2017 Panigale R, and I'll let you know if he can help without consulting Ducati.
    Hope it helps.
    Tom.
    Update:
I've had a confirmation and initial response from the: [email protected] , email address. I'll let you know what he says.

  10. Hi Tom
Thanks lots for this. I tried the ‘info’ email address but it bounced. I’ve agreed a trial with the vendor, so will update people here on success or otherwise.
    I’ve registered with Prosa.

  11. Received today. As suggested, it throws up an “Unknown Device” error.
I propose to download the software and ‘suck it and see’.
I’ve sent off an enquiry to Danfoss thanks Tom @RTD

  12. I asked Marco at Prosa which DDA devices would work with a 2015-17 Panigale R, but after an initial acknowledgement, unfortunately I haven't heard anything further. I hope you have better luck.
From previous experience with them, they are quite helpful on the software problem side, but they are reluctant to get involved with the hardware, apparently because they have an agreement with Ducati that they will not market devices.
I had a problem with the DDA from my 1198SP, which required a firmware update of the device and Prosa did help with this, but it didn't work correctly after the re-flash and luckily I had another device.
With a bit of luck, an unknown device warning on the bike, won't stop it recording on the channels that are in-common and the Prosa software will display what's available, with nothing on channels not supported on the bike, assuming no firmware issues.
The owners manual covers the display settings and usage, also don't forget to remove it after use or it might continue to drain the bike battery.
This forum link to experiences may help:

Here is a link to the device that came with my 2016 bike:
    https://www.bike-parts-ducati.com/ducati-motorcycle/assignment_spare_parts/38522121A .
Good luck, and let us know how you get on.
    Tom.
PS. You could try speaking to JHP-Ducati Coventry, they may be able to to offer helpful advice?

  13. Thanks again Tom
I’ll update this thread when anything else happens.

  14. Even though it says unknown device on the dash it will still record the data for the channels your bike has.

  15. Well, I finally got out today with the DDA plugged in. It threw up an “Unknown Device” error on the dash as per @Sonic. Annoyingly, the yellow warning triangle lit up, too.
Worst of all, nothing was recorded to the DDA. All efforts to get it to do so failed, so returning it to its generous owner.
If anyone with a V4S needs one, I’ll pass on their details.

  16. Sorry to hear it didn't work.
I had a quick look at my owners manual, which I assume is the same as yours, the instructions to link the DDA to the bike start on page 158, where it says:
    "DDA
This function allows you to enable and disable the DDA, view the percentage of memory used and to delete data stored in the DDA memory. The page for the DDA is only available when the device is fitted to the motorcycle. You enter the Setting MENU. Select "DDA" option, by pressing button (1) or (2). Once function is highlighted, press CONFIRM MENU button (4). You open the "DDA" Menu."
    More details then follow.
I assume that if it didn't recognise the version of the DDA, then you wouldn't be able to enable it and select the options for recording data?
Others on here may know more, and be able to offer advice.
Just the data stick advertised in the link I provided is about £270, which is expensive but should work with your bike and its GPS unit. Again, JHP may be able to advise further, and they may even have one for sale?
    Good luck.
    Tom.

  17. I followed the book instructions, but the bike failed to recognise the dongle, and DDA remained steadfastly OFF. Presume it has to clear the Unknown Device hurdle. Shame. Returning it to its generous owner.

  18. Oh no! Well I stand corrected!
Likely the V4 panigale electronics are completely different to the earlier panigales then and not compatible! Hopefully you find a compatible one!!

  19. Would be nice, if just to complete the set, so to speak.
I was surprised that it didn’t connect, to be honest. As you say, the electronics must be incompatible.

  20. Yep, the V4 uses a different / upgraded can bus system.
