Hi Guys, Random question does anyone load their Multistrada into a van? Reason i ask i am looking to see what size van is used as they are a tall bike and thinking of the clearances and roof height needed. TIA
Yes - a 1260 Pikes Peak in a T6 Transporter, but the mirrors need to come off and the screen be in the lowest position. (Not sure how you'd get on if you have a standard screen - maybe it'd need to come off)
We've always hired extra long wheel base vans so we can get length and height for 3 bikes Inc a multistrada
Reason i asked is i am thinking of going to Spain next winter and wondered if i could fit the Multi in a van, i have also been thinking of looking at a Debon Cargo 1300 trailer but possibly would much prefer a van option. Just not sure about the trailer option though. Would be good to see if anyone else has gone through this one. Cheers for responses so far
We've used a Vauxhall Vivaro to move a 2014 Multistrada 1200S GT, but had to remove the screen and mirrors to clear the rear door opening. Good luck, Tom.
Ducati Alton changed their van specifically because of the need to move Multis without removing screens etc, they bought a high roofed van, as did Riders of Bridgewater .... also a slightly wider than usual ramp is worthwhile so you can go up the ramp with it, as keeping a grip and slinging it up a standard single wheel width ramp can be a tad unwieldy as i discovered ....
Hi, Yes I think its a big van but they are big bikes - i helped a guy out of a van with his bike (not a Multi) the other week - it was like balancing the wheels on cheese wire ffs (i thought it was pretty precarious and was not at all comfortable) That is why i then moved on to a Debon Cargo 1300 - its a trailer but full width ramp and side door - own side it a trailer - thinking of going to Spain this coming winter for 3 months or 6 months if the EU change the visiting rules. Any feed back on the trailer would be useful Cheers ALL for feedback so far
Hi Andy, This is what i have found What do I need for a motorcycle trip to Spain? What documents do you need to road trip in Spain? Passport (or valid EU identity card) Driving licence (check it is in date!) Motorcycle Insurance documents- check you are covered for riding in Europe. Breakdown cover. Vehicle V5 logbook (which must show your correct address) Vehicle must be legally taxed and MOT'd.
Ok I stand corrected, I have a friend who just got shafted taking a road registered enduro bike to Spain in a Motorhome. Taking the correct documents is essential, hopefully this will help the OP
As above should be all you need. Whilst in the EU, people having their track bikes taken to European tracks were exempted from depositing a bond against the potential tax owed if they sold the bike before they came home. Now outside the EU, taking a track bike requires a form and a financial bond or insurance to satisfy European customs. Initial interpretations thought this might also apply to taking your bike over to ride at your holiday destination. It doesn't. Andy
I'm not sure about loading a Multistrada into a van, but I did find some great Volkswagen vans for sale on Truck1.eu that might interest you: https://www.truck1.eu/buses/volkswagen/from-germany. Consider looking for a van with a high roof to accommodate the height of the bike. It's also a good idea to measure the bike and compare it to the interior dimensions of the van you're considering to ensure it will fit. Hope this helps, and happy shopping
