1200 DVT Where To Get Exhaust Valve Spring

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Vtwin4fun, Mar 14, 2022.

  1. As above I took the bike out for a quick ride yesterday and the exhaust valve is stuck.....again. I gave it a right good going over last time it stuck so I've had enough of it now. Before I throw 40 off quid at the duc ee or healtech solution could someone tell me where to get an appropriate spring to try that method please? I've seen the boxes of springs at Halfords for 8 quid which is fine but I'm not likely to use the other 149 springs anytime soon so would rather just get either one or a few. Cheers

  2. If I understand what you are thinking of doing, you need a spring that is just stiff enough for the valve motor to sense resistance. Can't think of anything off the top of head but you should be able to pull the spring easily. Leo Vince de cats came with a cam lobe that fitted on the motor shaft and that was enough to fool the system. Mines still fitted and works after 10 years. Andy

  3. There’s a thread on here how to just disable using small spring from whatever you have laying around and some cable ties

  4. Fwiw I used one from a ram mount so needs not much tension

  5. Remove the flap by drilling heads of screws. Fix the cable solid by any method. Mine is with rust . Been fine for 8yrs. You don't need any after market plug in gubbins.

  6. Does the cable not need to go through the motion to fool it into thinking the flap is there though?

  7. Nope.

  8. Just dismantled a pen and the spring in that feels surprisingly strong so will give that a go and see what happens.

  9. That was pretty much the first job I did on my Enduro when I got it, a little over three years ago. And on the Monster before that, and the Multistrada before that! It's a bit fiddly to grind the heads off the screws (maybe I was using crap grinding bits!), but I've had zero exhaust flap issues as a consequence!

  10. With the aftermarket exhaust that I bought there was a simple tube supplied that you fix around the inner cable of the cable which operates the valve. By doing so the cable is stuck and the electronics sense resistance. This way you fool the bike into thinking the valve is still there. (So def. no spring is used)

  11. Right I've fitted a couple of pen springs as one wasn't quite long enough. Seems to hold up well and do it's job so far after some static start/stops and revving. I've wired the flap open so am going to have a run out shortly to see what it's like.

  12. Omg she is alive I "think" she's got a deeper tone on tickover but it could just be me. Also there seems to be less popping on overrun which is slightly disappointing but I'm very happy that I won't get anymore bogging down when the valve siezes again. Very happy with the results and sooo easy to do.
