Nothing to do with motorcycles.. Replacing shot bearings on the washing machine and discovered damaged windings. Is there any reason why I cannot solder these? It is not like the solder can short anything out, copper against copper after all...electrics not my thing though. I imagine ? that solder will need to be neat and a minimum amount for electrical resistance.. that is as far as my imagination goes with this ... Motor windings are always insulated from each other - there's a varnish coating on the individual wires. If you mend a broken wire, pop something between the 'mend' and the wires underneath it, but make sure that it can stay in place at full speed, etc...
Thanks, yes, now realised they have a covering. Too many damaged and not much clearance, which is why the damage happened I think..
It'll have no affect whatsoever except to minimise some stray flux from the current passing through it. Resistance will be negligible (otherwise there would be considerable self-heating). These wires aren't part of the motor winding per se - they are just the tails I think (don't know what the motor looks like). No idea about position of any sanctioning body but hard to see why they would care unless it maybe affects safety in some way.
