1200 DVT Multistrada Fuel Guage, 18 Plate Dvt

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by mike willis, Mar 2, 2022.

  1. I know this is a well trodden path but my fuel guage is developing a mind of its own.
A couple of wrong messages that seem to occur after a few miles, filled the tank, 20 miles later it's telling me it's empty.
Is it a big problem, will it get worse, is it easy fix?
I may just ignore it, I've grown up with bikes that needed a quick look in the tank to see the amount of fuel.
    Thanks in advance

  2. I am fairly sure you cannot fix it. But the latest generation of fuel sender should now have this very long term problem fixed???

Are you a regular Ducati customer, if so then ask for a contribution towards the replacement of this part, quite a bit of labour, as it has failed for years, ask and you may be pleasantly surprised.

  3. My 17 plate Super Sport is the same, it packed up in Spain last September, I’ve found one online for £80 but haven’t bought it yet. I just reset the trip every fill up

  4. They all do it. I think we are up to appendix 'F' now on the part number. Still not sorted properly. You need a new tank sender. The good news is they come with a Ducati two year warranty, but expect it to go again after 25 months :)

  5. ^^^^^^^ What he said. As MC also said above, this is a well worn issue and one that Ducati look like they simply can't resolve, in which case, play hard on this for some warranty support and I would imagine you will get some sort of result/contribution. Good luck, but going forward, once you've got it sorted, adopt the trip reset after each fill up, then at least you will know what's going on in terms of mileage and fuel limits.

  6. I've got a good relationship with On Yer Bike in Aylesbury, I'll let you know how I get on

  8. Bout £80 for sender . Bout an hr to fit. No ecu reset.

  9. What age is yours? Assuming you had the 4-year warranty, which of course you may not have, this surely would have been covered under warranty. I know mine was when it went wrong, not once, but twice!

  10. only 2yrs, I think. Mines a 2018. I had one replaced under Warrenty on my 2017DVT.

  11. Unless I'm mistaken, they come with a 2-year warranty anyway and that could have been extended at the time of purchase or within 30 days thereof, by a further 2-years, under the EverRed policy.
Ducati know, as indeed should the dealership you took your bike to, it is a well-known problem area, one Ducati have not been able to resolve. On this basis you should have not had to pay a penny. I suggest you go back to the dealership and make a strong complaint about this, which I would anticipate will result in you at least getting a voucher in full for the next bike service. Go get 'em....

  12. Fixed under warranty thankfully.

  13. Just booked it in with On Yer Bike Aylesbury.
£130 for the tank sensor and about an hours labour.
Way out of warranty so no concessions, I don't really care as long as it works.

  14. First trip out this morning since last year, fuel gauge not working.
Worked perfectly last year. Obviously caught COVID over Xmas.

glad I bought the extended warranty, I was a couple of months before they came with 4 anyway.
already had a full dash / clock replacement. Now fuel sender, what next…….

  15. Puncture?

  16. The three Multistradas I've bought new in 2011, 2015 and 2017 have all had fuel gauge sender issues. Some replaced under warranty, others I have fixed myself.
In 2020 the gauge started showing empty all the time, even when full. I did nothing about it, relying on the trip miles.
Nine months later I started filling up with E10 fuel, and the gauge spontaneously started working again. Now I always use E10, and the gauge works perfectly.

  17. ^ lovely to finally read a benefit from using E10, a veritable "Head and Shoulders" for the motorbike.

  18. Outrageous.

I have gone through 3 fuel sensors out of warranty and have always had the part given to me free of charge, even with an 8 year old 40000 mile plus bike

  19. When you say E10 what you mean ? Here in Greece we have unleaded 95 octane petrol(benzina), unleaded 98 and unleaded 100octane. I always use 98&100 petrol . Yesterday I filled up the tank with 100 and the fuel gauge not showed full ,just one bar less from full. Today I filed up with 98 and the fuel gauge looks pretty accurate .

  20. E10 = 10% ETHANOL = 95 OCTANES
    E 5 = 5% ETHANOL = 98 OCTANES
    E??= XX% ETHANE?? = 100 OCTANES??????????
