I saw a couple of YouTube videos of after market exhausts without the guards on so you could see the exhaust valve mechanism and cable. when I fitted an Akrapovic to mine a few weeks ago I noticed how rusty and manky my one was and then when I removed the pipe last week as I sold it again, I thought I should look at it. Did a quick search on here and quite a few had sticky valves. I started mine and it doesn’t move at all as far as I can see so about to wd40 it to hopefully free it up. I also noticed a lot mentioning a Healtech servo eliminator. Is that worth doing?
Hi Ozz, Healtech eliminator is definitely a good move. It will stop any future engine lights as the valve on all bikes are prone to sticking/seizing. The bonus is also a much better engine response in the RPM range where the valve would normally close. Its only there for noise emissions at a percentage of the total RPM due to the various Euro regs. It basically tells the ECU that the valve is working despite being fully open.
Cheers Stu. Mine looks like this and doesn’t seem to move. I don’t get a warning light on though. Might explain why when cold you start easily but try and rev it and it splutters and dies… The servo unit is under the passenger seat isn’t it?
Healtech ordered. Will be sticking a different after market silencer on so can then make sure the valve is (i assume) open all the time rather than shut....
If it stays shut then the bike will bog down at higher revs and reduced power. Make sure it is open and then once you for the Healtech it will stay that way so it doesn’t matter if it’s rusted in the open position. Other people here have ground down the pivot and removed it completely.
Just lockwire it open and use the healtech plug unless ceased solid. If ceased open, I'd lockwire it open anyway just in case.
Healtech arrived and have just fitted it. Started and did not do the usual spluttering if you revved the bike so hopefully it has cured that. No fault on the dash either. Test ride tomorrow.....
I have seen one person say the mid range is not so good but only one person. I haven’t actually ridden with it fitted yet so don’t know….
GPR exhaust arrived today so am currently fitting. I fitted the Healtech a little while back….. anyway after taking the standard pipe off I see the exhaust valve was actually shut all the time. I might notice a difference when I put it back together!
No downsides at all. Pre-empted failure on my 1260s, wired the valve open and fitted the eliminator before it became an issue. Feels and sounds better in the lower midrange, though the former might be the later giving a perception of the improvement.
