mostly because people paying with PayPal are usually funding the transaction from another source ie credit card etc and so the transaction is subject to a PayPal percentage fee which the recipient has to pay if the transaction is processed as “goods and services” there is no way for the payer (to my knowledge to) to pay the fees unless they process it as friends and family, then the fees are charged back to the person paying and not passed on to the recipients. I think the best way to protect yourself and ensure the recipients get the money they asked for is to fund your PayPal account then pay using the balance in the account to pay rather than an external source. I could be wrong, not read up on PayPal T&Cs for quite a while
Once you choose to use friends and family via PayPal you choose to give up your goods and services protection as your saying your know the person well enough to do the transaction with. Other than those you know well you should be using PayPal properly otherwise a scammer gets scammed just saying
I did spot another possibly one last Saturday but have just seen they have gone from a member with 2 posts to a guest?
All just be vigilant as the scammers have targeted here and got away with some money and probably watching the forum Scammers if your reading this we are watching you
Pay your family & close friends with with family and close friends transfer via paypal. Pay everyone else as a business. If you like them or feel embarrassed, feel awkward , just add the handling fee - its 2%. So the next time you get a great deal on a £250 slipper clutch, send the seller an extra fiver on the business transaction. They won't mind -unless they are really a dodgy scumbag. Which of course is bearable as you'll be getting a full refund from Paypal. I've bought a few things from here, and I've never had a problem as they were all genuine honest forum folk, and they have never lost out because I covered the fees.
A couple of years back I voiced concerns and suggested that the photo of the item on sale should have a user handle plac placed with-it on the photo, so if I was selling a brake lever next to it would be the plac with “farmind” on. Its a shame there are these people out there, I have bought a ton of stuff on this forum and everyone I dealt with has been most excellent.

Yes definitely a scammer. He’s been banned. They are getting clever as this one added a believable UK location to his profile. Please PM me if you see anything out of the ordinary again ps. I’m following up on any software barriers we can put in to stop spamming.
