  4. I thought I’d share this with you, someone might find it useful. I mentioned before that during the belt service I sheared an exhaust stud. After a bit of research I can see that this engine is prone to it (the top fixing is directly in line with the front wheel).

    I tried all the usual efforts to remove the stud (double nut, heat, impact, plumber grips, swearing, etc) but to no avail.

    Therefore to remove the stud I had little option but to drill it. This is the bit I wanted to share as I’m sure someone will benefit (and I’d happily share my tools should they be needed). It’s important at this stage that you don’t lose the proud part of the stud…if you do lose it, then my blurb below is useless to you.

    I used a m6 die with a hex to create a thread on the existing stud (middle portion not threaded). Then I used drill guides (thanks to my dad who has a lathe and the required skills) to help guide the drill straight and true. I used 4mm and 4.5mm drill bits then finally the tapping drill. The result was amazing, I was left with only the stud’s threads and they came out a bit like a spring. Finally I took a tap and cleaned the remaining thread. Job’s a good’n!
