Discs And Pads, Opinions Needed.

  1. I've just taken the plunge and ordered some Brembo discs for my R1 because I'm fed up of the judder. My question is probably slightly controversial... Do I REALLY need to put new pads in with new disc or can I keep my 1 trackday old SBS pads and run them on the new discs? I'm not putting pads that are covered in road salt and rubbish on new discs, they are bedded in and on a sunny dry day.

My gut says for the sake of £40 I should put new pads in with the new discs, then use mine again later once the discs are bedded in, but racers are always changing wheels, discs and pads and rarely have matched sets, so am I worrying too much?

  2. I would ha e no qualms using the 1 trackday old pads with the new discs.

  3. If they’re pukka Brembo jobs it’s not worth the aggro in my opinion.
    I’d put new ones in

  4. I'd put new pads in as you say for the sake of a small amount of money compared to how much the discs cost. Assume you use the sintered ones, not dual carbon as you do road and track? DC pads are soft as so could probably get away with it

  5. If the ones in there are good I'd put some emery paper on a flat surface and clean them up. Then upgrade when the time comes.

  6. I’ve got race sinter pads in there at the moment yes

  7. If there not worn out just reuse um.

  8. if you’re suffering with not so great braking, they might not help mate. I found those RS pads to be nothing more than a fast road pad

  9. okay, fair enough, tbh my issue is brake judder, which I think is a marginally warped disc, and they are originals with 14k miles on them so going to get new discs on before I do anything else

  10. Do you have WOWs? If so, save them for the wets and get new.

  11. I know you've already ordered discs, but..
If your disc buttons/bobbins are full of rubbish they can get very stiff and cause your disc to be off true, same symptoms as a warped disc.
With your thumb on the inner carrier and fingers on the disc, you should be able to move the disc without too much force. If you can't then the buttons need a clean with brake cleaner. Use clean fingers, or gloves to keep your discs clean.
New discs mean new buttons, which cures the above issue regardless of the actual cause
