Just working through a growing list of "things that might be replaced" and wondered about replacing the 22 year old hoses and clips. Originals work fine, but how long do these things last? Many thanks, Paul.
Black best on road bike for sure. Blue great on track bike. Red just wrong. Apparently you can also get Cammo ones now.
You could always just buy a set of s/steel jubilee clips from Samco and replace the original (now tarnished ones). It looks like the LH crankcase cover needs a bit of tlc too though , a standard Ducati feature though on a bike of that vintage. Paint stripper, 800 grit wet/dry paper, steel wool, zinc phosphate engine paint and Simoniz clear, petrol resistant, lacquer will have that looking as new .
I hear you Paul. I bought this "blind" at auction last year at a very cheeky price, so I know I have to "invest" to get her up to scratch. All the things that rot, fluids, belts, pads, tyres, discs, suspension have been renewed and checked. I deserve some road time now. Eventually that engine will come out and get the treatment you describe....
BTW, one thing I have failed to cure is a persistent, but very slow oil leak from the front rocker inspection cover. It was removed recently to check clearances, so is it a case of remove again and re-do the gasket seal?
FWIW- noted mechanic on this side of the pond, LT Snyder, recommends replacing hoses every 10 years and strictly using non-perforated hose clamps when upgrading to silicon Samcos. Apparently traditional clamps damage the outer surface of the hose?
I can see the logic in this, just in case. After all no one would want a hose to split whilst riding and be left at the side of the road.
I guess I should take his advice on board.... I've still got the 25 year old OEM hoses. Samco stuff is definitely pricey. I'm thinking these fit the budget better: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Fit-Ducati-...p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
I had a set of non Samco silicone hoses for well over ten years now. No problems at all. I still have the 27 year old original hoses in a box. I'd use them again if I had to, still nice and supple.
